Major fear I have (having just finished the first 9 eps, and damn Kakashi is a badass) is that this series will go the way of Kenshin in that it will be great for the first few major story arcs then kinda fall apart for the last half of the series. I know people here have been watching it since it started being fansubbed and I gotta know, am I about to waste 17 to 18gb (to collect up through the first 100 eps) on something that I'll never finish?
I love you Shikamaru
With that said, I very much enjoy Naruto. There are points where the art suffers - which bothers me. But it rarely lasts more than one or two episodes. The storylines have stayed sound, IMHO - although some drag on, and others seem to end abruptly. There was a weak stretch in the 70-80 department, but the story seems to have bounced back lately.
All things considered, I think you really have to try for yourself... But if you like the first ten episodes, you'll probably like the series.
Edit: Also, I just watch the anime, don't read the manga. Zaeron fucked around with this message on 11-29-2004 at 10:38 PM.

The same thing was said to me about Kenshin. Some people liked all 96 episodes, I found it falling apart after the Revenge arc ended somewhere in the late-50's/early-60's. After poking around for a bit I found this was a semi-common complaint. Most people watched all 96 because it was still 'ok' (the weak ass episodes >>> DBZ) but I just couldn't really get into it as much anymore after they hit that high point with Shishi-o's death....

I loved Kenshin too, and I didn't even mind the Christian story arc.
Yes! At last someone who agrees with me
*Yeah that right I postes twice in a role

Like I said, I think they stumbled a bit for a while after they really hit a high point around 45-60, but... The more recent arcs are very good. So any weakness was temporary. All in my opinion, obviously.
Unfortunately, I didn't watch much of Kenshin, so I can't make a comparison.

I still recommend the first half of it personally. If you're really into it you'll like the second half of the series and the OVA is just... wow. Yeah.
I too liked the Christian arc, but I would have rather seen the Revenge arc, the manga only arc where Kaoru gets killed, RIG is referring to the end of the Kyoto arc.
I can't say how well it holds up halfway through, because I don't know if we're halfway through yet. I do know that as far as they are in the manga, it's excellent, and the ending to the last story arc was very much .
Right now the manga Has stopped focus on Naruto for a bit, and is now depicting Kakashi's past, the reason he's late, and who this 'Obito' person they always refer to is and why he's important.
Why all the hate for the side mission? Episodes just before the 5+1 storyarc were pretty cool and help to set up the abrubt calamity of the episode before the 2 party.
Naruto does not dissapoint, Its worth the 20gigs.

Been a while since I bothered with it. RO, then WoW, consumed my attention for a long time. Haven't bothered with it since but I was loving it.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java the thoughts aquire speed, the teeth acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
Not that there's anything wrong with Dragonball Z, mind you, but DBZ is based entirely around action scenes. The series, all the movies, they all open on an action scene, follow up with an action scene, and end with an action scene and perhaps a group laugh. The characters really don't mean much, and the plot is minimal; nothing more than excuse for them to have an action scene.
Naruto is based on the characters. They all have extensive and detailed backgrounds, and the action scenes are character-oriented, showing their development, strengths, and weaknesses. It's a fundamentally different type of show.
*Which means then we would have to listen to more fanatics who have hardly seen any anime talk abouyt how Naruto could kick everyones ass -_-;;.

I agree Maradon. Though if Naruto does get brought to America I bet it would get the following DBZ had.*

Oh come on you think a Shonnen this big WON'T get licensend. I don't want it to happen either but it will eventually. Lets just hope it doesn't happen until the series ends in japanese.

Actually, last I heard there were so many distributors that wanted it that the creators were having a hard time deciding who to license it to.
Naruto is hot stuff.
It would have been brought over this summer or last if not for the huge amount of compeition among companies who want the rights to it.
Seriouslly, when in a matter of minutes a show has 10 thousands people downloading, and another 40k in 2 hours, on one site alone(animesuki), then a show is a hit.
Delid, just save the homepage for all the current naruto fansub's, then check the site itself.
Honestly, the fansubbers arent going to stop with Naruto, especially if people didnt stop with FMA.
They won't stop Naruto given how long the prep -> release cycle is. With 108 episodes already you're looking at more than 4 seasons so far and they'll probably do one DVD every 2 weeks with 6 or so eps per (and I think this is being generous), then season level box sets after that... It would take a while to get everything out.
