Topic: WoW: Billing Address?

So, Blizzard/Vivendi is doing their "we dictate who's playing on which server" thing.

To play on an US server I need a a credit card that is accepted in the states and an "billing address in the US". My MasterCard qualifies I think for the first part, but what exactly does "billing address" refer to?

The address my credit card is registered to?
Or the address I enter when I register my WoW account?

- Would entering an US address when registering my WoW Account work?

- Does anyone know of any workarounds?

Afaik it would work but giving incorrect billing information could also be seen as fraud.

The best workaround would be to have someone in the US act as your billing adress, I've been on the lookout for someone to do this for myself for a while. You may also need the billing adress to be the one tied to your credit card, in that case you would need an intermediary in the US to handle payments for you.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

It would be simple to set up a paypal subscription with someone in the US so that they get money in their account at the same time as WoW bills it.

Yeah, although it would be better to set it up so that the money comes in a few days in advance at least, so that the relay doesn't end up dropped below their credit limit by the 15$ (unlikely but possible) if there is a delay.

Just move to the US and quit bitching!

Haha, not really. I feel bad for out of country people who can't play on the servers they want to.

Actually we can't play at all for the next ~3 months which is the European release date.

Your billing address has to match your credit card, or the credit card won't go through. So I doubt you'd be able to sign up for an account with a false billing address. You'd honestly, I assume, have to find a friend stateside that is willing to carry you on thier credit card.

I've run into this before because of my APO address. What their billing system will do is check electronically that the address you input is the same as the address your credit card sends its bills.

I had the same problem when signing up for X-Box Live! right after release, as it won't accept APO addresses, and now it thinks I'm German because I input my local address. It was fine when the exchange rate was $.80 for a Euro. . .but I'm going to have to quit and resubscribe here in a bit to fix it.

Best thing to do is get someone you trust in the US to sign up on their CC and then you paypal them the money every month. If you ever having a billing issue, using a fake address can result in a whole lot of problems. Happened semi-often to players who imported the JP version of FF. Any billing issue and you have an address that wasn't the billing address? Goodbye to your account!

Also, Blizzard hasn't said if they're blocking players based on billing address or IP I believe. I would wait a week or two to see if it is the latter and possible save some cash, because I bet players will be bitching up a storm if they block by IP.

Yes Billing address = address on your credit card. Are they going to have prepaids? Like buy a card worth 3 months subscription? If you can buy your subscription that way I would think that you can use any address you want.

Also some games.. like EQ.. only allow one subscription per card. At least it used to be that way. So Trent and I would prepay the subscription. That was our work around.

As for the IP being blocked, we pay an additional 5$ a month to our provider for an additional IP address. It not only helps in billing situations but it also makes each of our IP's more secure in that we don't have to network them.

Good luck. I rather enjoy playing with Euro's so I hope you find a way to play before 3 months time.

I'll float your account, Tarq. As long as you promise not to do anything that would get any other accounts I pay for banned. And the same goes for any other non-US forum members who want to play on US servers.

What about the people in North America who want you to pay for them just so they can screw you over and get you banned for the other accounts you have?

You can have more than one address valid on a credit card.

Call your card company and they can set it up so that either one is a valid billing address.

You can use mine if you want

To clarify: Have two addresses on your card, your real one and a stateside one. Have your card company mail your bill to your real one. Give Blizzard the stateside one. Since the stateside one is an alternate on the card, it will check out, but you will still recieve the bill at home.

Awesome! Many thanks, Drysart!
And no worries about getting banned, I never did that and I won't do that in the future. (Heck, the reason I'm posting on EC is that I made this account to flame someone who was bragging about his banning and the stupid stuff he did in EQ)
