How heavily do stats weight into effectiveness? I had a blast playing a Dark Elf SK in EQ1, but how feasible is it in EQ2? The DE's in EQ2 look melee gimped. If I can do it, I'll probably get the game tomorrow.

Hopefully more then stats mattered in EQ1.. I'm guessing something similar to the stats in WoW..

Case in point: I was an enchanter.. I enchanted my bracer with health +5 (Permanent effect.. nice compliment to tailoring).. I had recently skilled to give bracers a stamina boost, so I tried it out.. 1 stamina gave about 8 health (425 to 428).

No more "loll 2020392 of every stat on everything!".

Any race can be any class, and any race is just as good at any class. Some may be better than others, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a marginal difference.
I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

I have a female dark elf crusader and as Adam can tell you, she kicks the butt of anything and everything. The HOs really help. Even if she has a bit less strength than say, a barbarian, she's still a force to be reckoned with.

In combat, the thrust of your class usually levels things out. Would a gnome Brawler out-damage a barbarian Brawler? probably not. On the other hand, the gnome has other advantages.

For non-combat, I notice my barbarian holds his breath longer at similar skill to my DE. I imagine it's in part stamina based, sooooo yes, it has a meaning.

I don't think it's nearly as arcane as it was in EQ, though.

It's also not as hard to gain gear in EQII as in EQI. Run around your starting city, especially the burrows, and do quests. You'll get yourself geared up nicely to handle the outer areas, and get XP into the bargain.

How are the xp rewards from quests? They were pretty uber in WoW, so how do they stack up?

Most give you a nice portion in lower levels. Some of the easier ones though only give a moderate amout of exp or rewards... (alot of quests in the beginning only give you like 20-40ish copper.)

This is the cool thing about quests in EQII. They are color coded just like mobs. If you complete a red, orange, or yellow quest, you can get a monumental amount of experiance- I've seen as high as 40% of a level. If you wait to long and complete a green or light blue quest then you get a slightly dinker exp reward relitive to your class, like 5 or 10%. But quests are always worth your time.

It's the same way in WoW, actually. Although without the blues, since WoW doesn't have those

Of course, if you weren't implying that it's exclusive to EQ2, ignore my statement.

On my mage, I've gone from level 6 to almost 10 nearly on quests alone. The only killing I've done for xp was a small number I had to kill for quests, but many of the mobs I had to kill were already gray to me.

Same as WoW, without the percentages. Khyron helped me finish a red quest(which was when I learned about the color differences, coincidently) and it gave me 1200 exp, instead of the usual 600-700ish quests my level gave.

Oh, something no one has pointed out yet.

You can only do the quests once. If you hail the person again, they don't give you the cue once you complete it. And it goes into your Completed section of your Quest Journal.

Actually there are some repeatable quests. Especially guild writs. Not very many (THANK GOD, too freaking many in FFXI ), but there are some.

I haven't found any repeatable yet, but there may be outside the city zones. Between Lydia and Colin I've done a large majority of the Freeport ones, and Amaera is working her way through the Qeynos ones.

I have found people with more than one quest, and who will give you additional quests once you complete the first one. Like the gnome guy in Temple street who gives you a fairly simple quest and then another which leads to an even better reward.

Unless if they changed it in release, the rat troll in Big Bend at the docks gave a repeatable quest.

The Forest Ruins has a repeatable quest. All City Tasks are repeatable (But you have to be level 11 and in a guild to get them).

I just dinged level 11 on Colin last night, so I haven't had a level 11 yet. And I'm not in a guild, of course. So what is a City Task? I haven't come across those yet.

As far as I've experienced with running around doing the quests that you can get before that point, I haven't found repeatable ones, just ones that build on previous tasks.

A City Task is also known as a Guild Writ. If you're in a guild, find out what Freeport faction you're aligned with. You then talk to the representative for that faction to accept a Guild Writ. Completing it will net the guild exp and give you status points. So if you're not in a guild, can't do one \<' '>/

Gotcha

Okay then, I haven't found any outside-guild repeatable tasks, but I haven't done all the Down Below ones. Amaera can't get those stupid bloody bug things on her own yet. She kills one, but gets nailed by the other. So once I've done that one, I'll see if I can repeat it or not and report back.

Repeatable quests ARE rare. If you want to know for sure that one is repeatable, go into your quest journal, go to the completed tab, then click the "show repeatable only" checkbox. Heh.
