- What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays?
- Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?
- Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas?
Longass list.
1: I think my fondest memories were when I would put on the santa hat and wait at the tree for everyone to wake up and then hand out presents.
2: My fav gift was given to me by my sister's best friend.. she wrapped two blocks of wood, while deftly sneaking in a "ur subscribed to NINTENDOOOPOWAR" in there.
3: My dad never played santa. :/
4: I dunno, I probably blocked it out of my memory.
5: See 4.
6: ?? It's christmas, foo'. Maybe not religious, but it's a time to get stuff.
7: Million bucks and a new body. Seriously, motivation would be nice, but I don't see anyone being able to wrap that.
8: Lectures.. D:
9: Sure.
10: Put on the santa hat and hand out presents.
11: Deviled eggs, Shrimp salad (Think pasta salad, but with better sauce) and Stove Top brand stuffing.
12: Yes, motherfucker; I saw christmas themed seasonal stores open on october first. IT WASNT EVEN HALLOWEEN YET. >

1.Probably the first year my dad was on the fire department, and he was supposed to work that day and night, but they let him have the night off.
2. Lego Aquanauts. Submarines are cool.
3. My dad never dressed as Santa or anything like that. At least, I don't remember...
4. I think the worst thing I got was a sweater my aunt bought at Sears and was a really terrible looking brown colour.
5. Well, there was one christmas where my dad went to a house fire and we watched on the news that a house had collapsed and three firemen were trapped for 3 minutes. Fortunately my dad wasn't one of them in the house at the time.
6. Our HUGE familly (10 aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins) always celebrate christmas with a huge dinner, a *little* wine, and lots of jokes.
7. All my college debts payed off. I would be the happiest man in the world. But seriously, I think a new jacket would be good, because my fleece one is a little old and starting to rip.
8. I don't know, maybe a snowboard or something. THERE ARE NO HILLS IN WINDSOR! (none that I know of at least).
9. Yes...
10. Hockey of course
11. We usually have a big dinner the night before christmas with my immediate familly before my dad goes on his split shift on christmas.
12. We already hhad our Thanksgiving.

Why?
Just take my word for it
6 Christmas to me is just a time to give people stuff to make them happy.. no religious sig

1. Fondest memory? Eh, family gathered together in front of the fireplace during a nice snowfall. I dunno, I don't really have *fantastic* memories when it comes to Christmas.
2. I had this awesome underwater Legos base set. (What else? Water owns, please) I forgot what the series was called, but it was black and yellow with blue tinted windows. Regardless, it owned.
3. My dad is Santa!!!!
4. A Barbie comic book when I was... 14ish. Rather humiliating.
5. Not really.
6. Yes, my family celebrates Christmas, although it's more because it's a time for the whole family (dad's side) to get together. We're religious, but we don't make Christmas a huge deal.
7. I honestly have no idea what I want. I'll probably ask for some more RAM, but only if people are giving it out like Halloween candy this year. I honestly don't care much for gifts, which makes it easy for my parents and hell for my relatives, especially my grandpa ("It's freaking Christmas, Melissa, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT?" "I don't care." ".............").
8. Again, I don't really care.
9. or
10. Hang out with my grandpa. He's pretty much my idol. *insert tearful story here* I love him so much
11. The only thing people around here consider weird is the fact that we open up gifts on Christmas Eve. But other than that, not really.
12. Sure, why not? Although I prefer the more thought-provoking questions about us, not something relating to a holiday.

- Looking back over all the Christmases you can actually remember, what is your fondest memory?
Hard to say, my brother ruined a fair many. I would say the last time I got to spend in with my famiy, 4 years ago.
- In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas?
A cradle my grampa made me when I was 5. It has alot of sentamental value, he made it by hand, for me... and it was the last christmas I ever had with him. He died 3 days after Christmas.
- Did you know your mom slept with Santa?
Phhht, no ;P
- Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received?
Underwear. I mean common, who likes getting that for christmas? ;P More so, who likes other people buying underwear for you? Blick!
- Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
Every year my brother threw a fit over his presents. I hate how he disrespects our parents.
- Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why?
Yeah they do. When I'm not with them, or with Ken's folks, it's just another day really. However, I like to decorate, so I like the holiday decorating thing!
- This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
Housey stuff. Lamps, candle holders, candles, things like that. And a pony.
- What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' You like Legos, you wouldn't want MegaBlox, etc)
Cheesy hokey stuff. No real way to explain it...
- Madagascar, yes or no?
No!
- What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays?
Decorate and bake things.
- Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?
Not really. They're rather low key for traditions...
- Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas?

Looking back over all the Christmases you can actually remember, what is your fondest memory?
I really don't have specific memories so much as impressions. My birthday's a week before Christmas, too, and I tend to link them together.
In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas?
Childhood, huh? I got a set of Batman action figures that was the coolest thing ever. Another year, I got the Slave 1 and Boba Fett.
And .. back when Zelda: OoT was released and Goldeneye hadn't been out for that long. My parents told me they couldn't find either, that they were sold out everywhere, and not to get my hopes up. Birthday: Zelda. Christmas: Goldeneye.
Did you know your mom slept with Santa?
Not really. I never really dwelled on it.
Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received?
Something from my grandma, I'm afraid. Probably a tie between a non-fitting shirt or a Hardy Boys compilation.
Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
There's a horse pasture next to my house. One year, the fence broke, and the horses escaped throughout the neighborhood. Christmas morning, we had neighbors using a pick-up truck to try and herd the horses out of our yard.
Last year, I was on painkillers and out of it for a good chunk of Christmas break. Not "bad" exactly, but could have been better.
Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why?
Yes. We go to Christmas Eve mass every year. Usually have Advent Candles for December, too.
This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
I would have the most use for more cargo pants, notebooks, and shelf-things. I would most enjoy getting video games, books, music CDs, unexpected/random things, maybe a Nintendo DS.
What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' You like Legos, you wouldn't want MegaBlox, etc)
X-box games. Romance novels. Dress clothes.
Madagascar, yes or no?
There are some interesting things that live in Madascar. Yes.
What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays?
Build a fire, invite friends over, play games, eat too much and lounge.
Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?
We usually go out of town at least once or twice over break. Sometimes, but not always, this involves visiting my dad's family in Indiana and staying in a state park.
Absolutely no gifts are opened until Christmas.
Also, the Christmas dinner is pretty traditional.
Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas?
If you can think of them. I'd say Thanksgiving has less associations. MorbId fucked around with this message on 11-08-2004 at 04:13 PM.
In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas? The giant buckets of Legos and Lincon Logs
Did you know your mom slept with Santa? Mom was Santa. Dad never did any of the shopping until midafternoon on the 23rd. Then it was finding something expensive and flashy, which the person it was intended for had never even thought of. Mainly because they didn't have any use for it.
Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received? My crazy Great-Aunt sent me plastic hangers one year. Hangers. Wtfy.
Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why? Yes. The year my dad and his brother got into a huge fist fight and wound up destroying my family's great room, Christmas tree, and about half of the presents that were left beneath it. These were men ranging in age from 55-63 mind you.
Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why? I tend to celebrate the mid-winter thing more than the religious aspects. My family has never been overly religious, and that's just how it's rubbed off on me. It's a time to get together with friends and family, and eat and drink way too much.
This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)? I'd love a job. Household stuff is good as well, as we left a great deal of that in NY.
What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' You like Legos, you wouldn't want MegaBlox, etc) I've gotten lots of books from clueless family members (who know I read tons), that I would never look at normally. I recently rid myself of a series of four Danielle Steel hardcovers.
Madagascar, yes or no? I like travel!
What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays? Shopping. I love the shopping. Especially online. I also adore having an excuse to cook big, elaborate meals!
Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?Every year, my dad's side of the family gets together and has what they call "a traditional Lithuanian Christmas Eve feast". It's basically a big seafood dinner, with everyone in the family bringing a dish. This can either be a wonderful thing, or an utterly hellacious one, depending upon the whims of the cooks (we have some crazy dieters on that side, one of whom tries to convince us annually that seafood alfredo can be made just as good with skim milk and soy parmesan). The menfolk sit around and talk about their businesses (lots of self-made millionares on that side as well), and the women are treated with a basic level of misogyny. We're to cook, clean, set the table, etc. If you try to get in on the boy discussion, you're shit outta luck. Unless you've made your first million. Then maybe you'll have a voice. being the black sheep rules. really. *gag*
Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas? I'm gonna make a Turducken!

Did you know your mom slept with Santa?
Well, I suspected that for a while, but it later turned out to be completely false. Mostly because Santa doesn't exist.

Y'know, I can't recall. Probably for the best.
Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
No.

Yes, we celebrate Gift Day.
This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
Actually, I'm contributing $100 worth of my Christmas money towards getting all of our computers here networked in preparation for DSL. Getting off this damn 45k dial-up is going to be quite possibly the best Christmas present I could receive yet!
Aside from that, money. I'm looking at getting a new compy-comp, as my current one's five years old and would be absolute HELL to upgrade to current technology. Thus far, the only downside to the new system is it has 256MB PC3200 RAM, but I can upgrade that to 512MB or possibly 768MB later. Cash will help a lot.
What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' Even worse if it's a re-gifted 1st-gen N-Gage. Removing the battery to change the game is a PAIN IN THE ASS.

1) Looking back over all the Christmases you can actually remember, what is your fondest memory?
* Fondest memory is the first Christmas we moved to NC. Not only did we have snow that year (which is important when you come from MA) but Deth drove our go-kart into a snowbank. *laughs at the memory*
2) In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas?

* That explains a lot about Deth.
4) Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received?
* One year when I was 10ish, my aunt gave all of the nieces/nephews crappy gifts she got for free. Pissed me off.. especially since her kids sent lists to my parents with like hundred's of dollars worth of gifts listed on it.
5) Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
* Yes, 2001. It was bittersweet. Chase was just born, but it was the first Christmas without my stepbrother.
6) Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why?
* Heck yes. This is my favorite time of year 'cuz I get to celebrate with all of my family.
7) This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
* Most enjoy - Legos. * Get the most use from - gift cards.
8) What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' You like Legos, you wouldn't want MegaBlox, etc)

9)Madagascar, yes or no?
* Yes. Unless we're found out. Then remember, we're cute and cuddly, boys. Cute and cuddly.
10) What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays?
* Christmas shopping. I love the hustle and bustle at the mall and different stores. Umm.. taking the kidlet outside to play in the snow.. DECORATING!.. I love all of it.
11) Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?
* Not that I can think of off hand.
12) Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas?

In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas?
Well, when I was 7, I got my first guitar, that was really exciting, and a few years ago I got my first bass, but I found it under my mom's bed like a month before Christmas, but it was still awesome.
Did you know your mom slept with Santa?
Considering my mom IS Santa...I hope not. (And my stepgrandma...which makes that question even worse...)
Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received?
Last year. I got a SHITLOAD of bath soaps. People said they didn't know what to get me...so that was a saftey present. I told people this year if they got me any kind of bath soap...I'm going to throw it away and never buy them anything again.
Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
Bath Soaps.
Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why?
I celebrate Christmas 3 times every year.
This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
Stuff for my car. I'm really proud and over protective of it because it's truely the first really nice thing I've ever owned for myself...so I like to make it look/run nicely.
What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' You like Legos, you wouldn't want MegaBlox, etc)
Like if they buy me stuff for inside my car...don't make it black if the inside is tan...and don't buy me red outside stuff because my car is blue/green.

Probably last Christmas. Whole family, San Diego, and a new girlfriend to give gifts too. *shrug* I was never really into Christmas.
Probably the Saturn we got. Man, I loved that thing...
No...by the time I figured out the whole sleeping with thing, the Santa myth was long dispelled.
Probably this board game, "The Pit", which seemed cool in the commercials but was a collossal dissappointment in person.
Not really. My parents generally managed to stop fighting long enough to actually have christmas.
We are Catholic, so we always celebrate it for both the commerical and religious importance.
Gifts? Just music...computer parts are kind of unreasonable, although a CPU HSF would be appreciated by my roommate, probably (mine's kinda loud). Stupid t-shirts are always fun...
Uh, well, from Thinkgeek, I have the "I will replace you with a very small shell script", "STFU", "There are 10 types...", and the binary "You are dumb" one. Thinkgeek stuff is kind of overworn nowadays anyway.
no.
Eat, say bah humbug, give gifts.
We eat lutefisk and other norwegian foods. I personally hate the stuff, but eh,
tradition, y'know?
Thanksgiving isn't quite as big for us, we generally just have a big dinner with whoever's geographically close (no one for me, this year )

This Evercrestionnaire will be a little bit different, friends. Not only does it give you questions to waste your time answering in some weird internet stalker way of sharing information like the rest of them, BUT it also doubles as helping your Secret Santa know what you like and don't like without the trouble of them asking someone that knows you or asking you directly! Therefore, I urge the people participating in Secret Santa 2004 to participate in this as well!Answer the following questions as honestly as possible and try not to be vague!
- Looking back over all the Christmases you can actually remember, what is your fondest memory?
- In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas?
- Did you know your mom slept with Santa?
- Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received?
- Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
- Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why?
- This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
- What kind of item is similar to things you but are things that you'd not want to receive? (For example, you like action figures... you wouldn't want someone to give you a Barbie 'action figure.' You like Legos, you wouldn't want MegaBlox, etc)
- Madagascar, yes or no?
- What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays?
- Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?
- Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas?
1. I was... I think I was, like, fourteen. It was awesome not because of any single event, but because everything went right. It was the last christmas we had with the ENTIRE family, before all the insanity about my grandmother pretty much nixed that (long story). There was no worrying about money. No holiday angst or drama, no problems at the italian side, no balking, no false modesty. There was money enough to get everyone, if not what they really wanted, then something they could appreciate and use - EVERYONE, here - and some things they wanted as well. It was just... harmonious. Everything went downhill from there.
2. Damn. Hm. Video-game-wise: My Super Nintendo, along with Super Mario, F-Zero, Legend of the Mystical NInja, Mortal Kombat and some other stuff. Non-video-game-wise: My teddy bear. Sappy, I know, but I've had him since Christmas Number One, and though he's like a ZOMBIE now, I loves him.
3. Is that why I shake like a bowlful of jelly? Shit, no, that's the turkey.
4. As in "you fucking cheapass", "this was what I wanted but it's a disappointment", or "this was expensive but you were obviously on crack when you bought it"? For number one, it was... a small, plastic pool table. That was obviously bought from the dollar store. With the little 99 cent sticker still on it. From a 49-year-old aunt. Second, was a Polly Pocket. What the hell was I thinking. Third was a Ganz bear. I got this, like, last year. It cost like 150 bucks, which is, like, WHOA, but it just... sits on my desk now. It's a collector's item and I don't want to toss it, but I have no idea what do to with it and feel bad just leaving it there.
5. This recent one. Again, not for any specific reason, just... I don't know. Exact opposite of the best one. My family is seriously fragmented, cutting off all ties with like ALL of my mother's side except for perhaps five people, and my father's is so bloody melodramatic; there's ALWAYS at least THREE major dramas that happen on christmas, like, ON CHRISTMAS DINNER DAY, and everyone's just sick of it. Nono is depressed, Nana is fucking crazy, Papa is... in an old age home with Alzheimer's, and Nona is dead. My aunts and uncles just do NOT get along, and money gets tighter and tighter every year; I've stopped making up "wishlists", not because of age, but because, really, I feel like a fucking heel by actually ASKING for something. I feel like an ass by putting pressure on people. Last year was a pretty scanty christmas, and, well, looks as if it's going to be worse this year, too. Just... everything's gone downhill, and it's become more about the tradition and the stress than about anything else, now.
6. We celebrate christmas with the family (big family), Yule at home (family is wiccan), and christmas day (because it is commercial and we've always done that). Yule is the only "religious" one; sometimes we go to a bigger, more public circle for it, but these last few years mom's just held one at home.
7. Again, I've sort of stopped making a wishlist. I just don't want to put any pressure on anyone. I honestly just don't really care anymore. My birthday's near christmas too (it's on the tenth), and, well, all I want is for everyone to just have a good time. Have a christmas, celebrate like back when I was fourteen. Everyone together, no fucking drama, enough money to go around - just enjoy, and get tipsy on the wine.
8. I like video games. Last year my cousins got me a Future Shop gift certificate. They deserve hugs. Yay for them. I also like clothing. Nice, pretty, dramatic, gothy clothing. My aunt got me a gift certificate for Cotton Ginny. UM. I don't want to be critical, but... just looking at me is kind of an indication I don't shop there. Hugs and thanks, again, but I traded it behind her back with another cousin for her HMV certificate .
9. Sure.
10. Toboggan. I haven't done it in forever. I want to get pissed drunk and fly down a ridiculous incline at painfully stupid speeds and probably fall off and break my face but have a good time. We actually got snow today. Little flurries, but our last few christmasses have been brown christmasses, so I want a good solid dump that we can toboggan on and ski on and skate on and make snow Hounds of Tindalos' out of.
11. It's really stupid, but during Christmastime up here in Torontoland, Swiss Chalet has this "festive special". It's utterly retarded and Mom cooked up an utterly retarded voice for it. We go out for a festive special and she speaks in the retarded voice all nigth and it's stupid and silly but kinda fun. They've nixed the Toblerones in favor of Lindt truffles, too. Not traditional, but lindts rule so it's OK .
12. I'm Canadian. Thanksgiving has come and gone. I could care less .

Thank you oh so much for relating my first driving experience.
You're more than welcome.
One year, we were really late getting our tree. There we were on Christmas Eve, driving around looking for one. We were all really hungry and cold. We finally found one and tied it atop the car, and headed home. At the last moment, my dad made a "wrong" turn and parked in front of the classiest Chinese restaurant in our neigborhood. We ate well that night, and it was my first experience with chinese food.
# In your childhood, what was your favorite toy or set of toys you received for Christmas?
A bike that my Dad had assembled in the attic so we wouldn't know about it, then rolled down the stairs at gift-giving time
# Did you know your mom slept with Santa?
I feel strangely uncaring my Mother slept with someone who doesn't exist.
# Of all the Christmases in your memory, what was the single worst gift you ever received?
A t-shirt with a bow on the front pocket
# Have you ever had something you'd consider a 'bad' Christmas? Why?
The one right after grandma died was pretty sad.
# Do you or your family even celebrate Christmas? If not, do you celebrate at all, even if it's just that 'time of year to celebrate with family?' Why?
My family celebrates Christmas, not X-mas. Its a religious thing for us. When I was kid, we celebrated the jewish holidays instead, as they are just as religious for us and everyone but my dad is technically jewish. They're a lot less commericalized and destroyed by the public. Thus, I've always had a gift giving holiday around December. When we did eventually switch to celebrating Christmas as anything but a church holiday, it was because the extended family was getting offended.
# This year, what kind of gifts do you think you would most enjoy or have the most use for (within reason, of course)?
A gift is a gift, I figure. I appreciate all the ones I get. Mostly I like gift certificates to places like Wal-mart, so I can resupply for the year on whatever I need.
# What are your favorite things to do during the Holidays?
Cooking, eating, church
# Does your family have any interesting traditions for the Holidays? What are they?
Every Thanksgiving, the whole extended family gets together dressed as pilgrims and indians. At dinnertime, we pass around an acorn dish and drop corn kernels in it and say what we're thankful for.
# Should I ask questions about Thanksgiving too, since it's closer than Christmas?
Yes! Thanksgiving is also a way cooler holiday than Christmas!
