I'm just hoping we can somehow leave Iraq within the next couple years without it turning into a hostile Islamic state or crumbling into civil war and becoming annexed by Turkey and Iran.

Oh gimmie a break. Bush has this thing won. Yes, there is a slim margin of chance for Kerry to come back, but tis so slim that I choose to ignore it. As far as Bush and his "not chosen" stigma. I do belive this Election will greatly shake that off seeing as Bush on the popular vote on such a large margin. No one can argue that electing Bush and president is not the will of the people. Wether or not that means that Bush's administration will get more done? I don't think so. And if he does it will have nothing to do with that label.
Every branch of Governement is now completely Republican-controlled. They can pass absolutely anything they want.
I'm guessing the admin will get considerably more done. Worse, I think this sets a precedent for what kind of people Republicans will run.

Aury had this to say about Jimmy Carter:
Sorry, Charlie. Bush hasn't won yet. There is still hope.
Kerry is trailing by over 139000 votes in Ohio (which realistically is the only thing that can throw it his way), with approximately (according to AP sources) 150000 votes still to be counted. He therefore needs 90% of those votes to fall his way in a state thats apparently showing a 52% preference to Bush...
*insert Somu Icewalker moment* Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight..
IMHO Aury, its attitudes like that that perpetuated the whole "OMG! Bush never won the 2000 election! He was never president!" saga, and is only going to lead to more Supreme Court shenanigans (for both sides in all likelihood)... and let's face it.. 30-60 days worth of court battles to determine the outcome is so much more gracious than admitting "Ok, we got done this time. But we can keep up the pressure for good government while we plan a real humdinger of a campaign for '08!"

To be totally fair, 85% of prov ballots did go to Gore in 2000. Still, it's a longshot.

This is true, so they probally will get more done. BUT, I still don't think that will have anything to do with the dropping of the "bush wasn't really elected" stigma. Which was my point.
I try not to think about the domination of Republicans. It makes me sad in the pants.

Ok, true. Its a statisical possibility...
..but then so is the chance of being hit on the head by a meteorite while flying through the skies in a hotair balloon, wearing a lime green tuxedo..
Now I'm no fan of Dubya, and in a way you can argue that realisticaly the result doesnt affect me so why should I care... but Aury's comment reeks to me of "It's not over until all the court challenges about the validity of votes, etc are decided..."

That's exactly what the politicians here are still doing 3 weeks after losing the Federal election... "OMG! It's all the fault of the voters for not understanding our policies!"..
Riiiight... it wouldnt have anything to do with those policies being MAJOR SUCKAGE?? or the fact that the leader of the party is a foul-mouthed, fist-swinging bully (he was convicted on an assault charge for punching a cab-driver, and has used language that would make even a Navy Seal blush when describing Dubya [ok, yeah I know.. so have a lot of other folks.. but they say it in private.. not publically, on camera, and in Parliament!!!])..
Yes, blame the very people you want to vote for you so you can get into government next time.. I'm sure that they'll forget what you think of them next time the election rolls around... after all, thats why there was a 4% swing against them this time... because the voters had forgotten about the insults after the last election they lost too....
With any luck we'll see a flat tax within the next two years

Umm... 2000 in Florida was not an attitiude issue. There was some VERY shady shit that went down here.
More people showed up to the polls this year so 2000 wouldn't happen again. But out of the 112 MILLION (yay for us) people who voted, 48% don't want to see bush for another 4 years. I am glad these "shenanigans" happen, shows we give a shit as a people.
Besides, as I'm typing this, Kerry has called bush to concede.

Even Hillary? Kerry not getting in now just means Hillary can run four years earlier.

Coutry's on a roll now, so lets get our buns moving!
Complete unification by a single party is a nice idea in some ways, but it has some major drawbacks.
Regardless, I always like to watch a President's last two years of their second term, because it's always interesting to see what they'll try to establish as a lasting legacy, and what they'll do when they're not up for reelection.
Maybe

You would think that, but only if you have a skewed understanding of how economics works.
The concept of a "tax burden" as a fixed thing that must be shouldered is flawed. The cost of running government is not a weight, it is more akin to an energy requirement. If you decrease the amount of capitol you are removing from the economy you increase the ability of everyone to fill the financial needs of government. The only way to decrease the amount of capitol that is being removed from the economy by a more-than-trivial amount is to cut taxes for those who are paying the most taxes - corporations and business owners.
