1: Your approximate age (Teens, 20's, etc) Not too important, just helps.
2: What character was the most wrong in doing what they did. List them 1 to 5, with 1 being the most blame-less person, and 5 being the overall worst person.
Anyways, that aside, I'll begin the story:
There was a town that sat along two sides of a river. Inside the river were many crocodiles, and the current was too strong to swim across. A man named Jack lived on once side, and woman named Angel lived on the other. A bridge was the only way to cross between the two halves of the town.
Angel and Jack had grown up together, and had been dating for a long time. Their love was an uplifting part of the community, and everyone knew they were destined to marry someday. Though, one day the bridge connecting the town was destroyed during a heavy storm.
After waiting two months for the weather to clear up enough to let the bridge be built, Angel grew impatient and went to a local fisherman named Danny to ask for a ride over in his boat. Danny asked if Angel had any money to give, but Angel did not. Danny then proposed a free ride over to the other side, after sleeping with him for one night.
Angel turned down his offer and decided to ask an older business woman named Diane for help. Diane was very wealthy, and owned several ships that were doing good business trading back and forth between the halves of the town. Diane listened to Angel's story, then told her that she wasn't running a charity, and she couldn't get across for free.
Distraught, Angel went back to Danny and agreed to sleep with him. The next morning, Danny took Angel in his fishing boat across the river.
Angel reunited with Jack on the other side, but guilt overtook her and she told Jack what she had done to get Danny to take her across. Jack got very upset, and began yelling and slapping Angel for cheating on him. A local man named Brutus happened to be walking by, and heard Angel's cries. Seeing Angel being slapped by Jack, Brutus burst inside the room and proceeded to beat Jack to within an inch of his life.
Now, please list the characters: Jack, Angel, Brutus, Danny, and Diane from 1 to 5, with 1 being the most blameless, and 5 being the worst acting-person involved. (Try to include some short reasons too, if you've got the time)
Thanks for reading all this, it'll be a big help.

4. Brutus: It was none of his damn business. The end.
3. Angel: She may have done what she did to see Jack, but surely having sex with a guy was not the only way to get across. She couldve made a little money or something to pay her way across with Diane. You cant really put all the blame on her though, shes obviously a little dumb for not looking for another way to get across.
2. Danny: What he did wasnt all that bad. He offered to take her across in exchange for sex, he didnt force her or insist or anything. It wasnt his problem if she decided to accept and put her relationship in jeopardy.
1. Diane: She runs a business and doesnt give free rides. Obviously, if she gave Angel a free ride across she would become known in the community as a charity, and since the bridge was now gone, a lot of the locals would expect her to give them rides too.

Jack can hook up with Diane now, though, so it's all good.

changed to fit my answers.
4. Angel: The fact that everything she did was for Jack saves her from numero cinco. In the end, however, if she felt that having sex with Danny was wrong, she shouldn't have done it.
3. Danny: Taking advantage of helpless and desperate women is very low. Tsk, tsk.
2. Brutus: While it may have been necessary for him to intervene on Angel's behalf, he neglected to inquire into the nature of the dispute and used unneccessary violence when he probably should've alerted the authorities.
1. Diane: She's a businesswoman. You cannot fault a businesswoman for refusing service to a nonpaying customer.
Age: 20
4 Angel - Relationships are about commitment. While the story only states that they had been dating for years, it never mentioned they did so exclusively. However making that the assumtion angel ranks as the 4th worst because in breaking the commitment to barter passage she basically broke the foundation the relationship sits on.
3 Brutus - Jumping in an beating someone isn't necessarily the most honorable intervention. Jump in, allow for escape and get out yourself, but beating mercilessly only puts him at jacks level.
2 Danny - He's a dirty old man, there are alot of them in the world, being dirty isnt a crime, just doesnt make many long term friends.
1 Diane: Business is business. And while it is a sucky outlook of things for business to not look out for its community in that small of a matter it is not necessarily wrong

5. Jack. He has no right to hit her in the first place, Angels' intention was pure even though the jackass that brought her across wasn't.
4. Angel. Even though she wanted to get across, she could've had alot more patience when it came to having sex with Jack. Especially when she gave it up to Danny.
3. Danny. He could've offered his service for free and be a good samaritan. But what he wanted in return was asking for alot more than just money.
2. Diane. She is wealthy and can easily afford one person going across the river for free.
1. Brutus. He really didn't know anything coming into the argument, and since he just assumed Jack was beating Angel for the hell of it, maybe he was a little to extreme in his senseless beating.

Ratings (and reasons):
5 - Danny. Using your position to obtain sexual favours is the sign of the lowest kind of scum.
4 - Diane. Just because she doesnt want to be seen as a "charity" case doesnt mean she can turn her back on some display of civil virtue. Using your position of power for monetary profit from the situation is just as bad as using that same position of power for sexual profit (see above).
3 - Jack. If he loved Angel that much he should understand that what she did was not because she didnt love him, but because she did love him and wanted desperately to be with him. Plus beating a woman is the second lowest form of pond-scum.
2 - Brutus. While he may feel jusitified in beating seven shades of snot out of someone who physically abuses a woman, its still not his place to "take justice into his own hands".
1 - Angel. While she didnt show much common sense in trying to find alternative ways across the river, or even displaying a little bit of patience, she did what she felt was right to acheiev her goal of seeing Jack. She then felt remorse and admitted what she had done and asked forgiveness. Not as innocent as her name suggests, but rates better than the others.

Here's a little ditty
'bout Jack and Diane
Two American kids
Doin' it the best that they can..
1 Angel: She had the choice of going with Danny in order to see her lover sooner, but at the cost of cheating on him, or waiting and crossing the bridge once it was rebuilt.
2 Jack: Jack Could've reacted in any way, but he chose to get very violent, when her act was clearly the result of love. Very annoying.
3 Danny: Danny was scum, but she Angel did what she would of her own free will.
4 Diane: She was simply doing her job. Hard hearted, but businesses often are.
5 Brutus: Brutus was, in my eyes, the one who posssibly save Angel's life.

Edit: Explaining
Danny was the worst, he took advantage of a woman in need in disgusting way knowing full well the problems it could cause for her. Angel came a close second as she not only was impatient, but was unfaithful in her impatience, a poor excuse in my estimation. Jack was the hardest of all to rate because his behavior was deplorable, however, his circumstances are such that would draw an extreme reaction from anyone, be it anything from uncontrollable sobbing and becoming suicidal to rage and violence (this doesn't excuse him in any way, but his reaction was an uncalculated emotional response as opposed calculated misbehavior). Diane is a businesswoman with a large enough fleet that it couldn't hurt her to give one ride, but, were she to have given Angel a ride, her business would be quickly swamped but others seeking the same (as someone earlier pointed out). Brutus I can't fault at all, I'd have done the same myself.

Jack 5 - He had no right what so ever to hit Angel. I dont care if she came back and said she slept with 50 men, a guy has no right ever to beat a woman unless they are in self-defense.
Danny 3 - With knowledge that Angel was very much in love with Jack (it said everyone in the town knew they would end up getting married) what he did was pretty crappy. But it still wasn't quite as bad as what Jack or Brutus did.
Brutus 4 - Justice is not ment to be served on one owns account. If Brutus had merely stepped in for Angel and fought back just enough for Jack to quit, or to try and stop Jack from hitting Angel but did not beat him to the brink of death, it would have been a noble cause. But since he didn't do that, and he almost killed Jack, his reactions were not much better than that of Jack's to Angel's story.
Diane 1 - Even though she did not give Angel a ride, that was her choice as a business women. Now it would've been considerate of her, but she still didn't have too.
Hope this helped... I'm 16 by the way.
[edit] Spelling. I think I got all of it, probaly not though Tareshinal fucked around with this message on 10-22-2004 at 11:28 PM.
Danny 4 - Complete sleaze bag, but physically assaulting Angel clinches #5 for Jack very easily.
Angel 3 - Sleeping with the boatman to get across is pretty bad. But Jack being that physically abusive and Danny taking advantage of her like that marks them quite a bit lower.
Brutus 2 - It's hard to place this one, because I applaud him for helping, but on the other hand he probably could have just pinned Jack instead of beating the shit out of him.
Diane 1 - Business is business. Now if she and Angel had been friends...
