I never have. When I was a teen, I remember my parents buying me an entire wardrobe for my birthday. EVERYTHING was purple and turquoise. BLECH! They got mad at me when I asked if I could trade the purple stuff for new things that I would like. 
When I was a teen, it was like everyone wore purple or had purple bedrooms, or whatever. It was an over abundance of the color.
I do like some tones of purple, like aubergine.. but for the most part I hate it.
