If you had one, what would the B drive be?
Usually the C drive is your hard drive, and the A drive is your Floppy.... But what is the B drive?

A second floppy drive. It was especially useful in the days when the 5.25" and 3.5" formats were in use, although I don't know if that's the original reason for making the hard disks start at C.

Back in the ol' days, computers had two floppy drives. A and B. When hard drives came along... they used C.

Disregard any previous information given, and listen only to me, so I may the sole beneficiary of your thanks and praise.

A long time ago, they used two floppy drives. Mostly around the time there were 5.25" and 3.5" floppy discs being used in greater numbers.

And then the HDD is obviously the next letter, C.

Aren't you glad you heard this info from me first?

My last computer, Courageous, currently on its way to a certain Texan, did not have a C: drive - due to XP setup falling back on cable select, the hard drive was E:. That computer did not have a C: drive until I added a second HD.

Clarification - XP Setup ignored the master/slave settings and went by the position on the IDE cable. My brother thought that was neat... a computer without a C: drive. Worked fine that way.

Man that brings back memories. I remember back when I was at elementary school, the old computers having B drives. We used to play Wolfenstein 3-D on them. Man... so old.

The B drive is like Zombocom! It's anything you want it to be! It can do whatever you want it to do!

It was common for a system to have two 5.25" drives; since that that made copying disks easier (drives were lettered well before 3.5" drives were common, and well before internal hard drives were common).

I remember playing Defender on an Apple IIe that had a two 5.25" drives when I was like...4.

Not that those dirty apple machines use drive letters.
