OK, I need one of these for my system. My processor regularly flirts with the high 50s/low 60s (celsius) on temperature, and my video card gets as high as 70 Celsius.

I'm looking for a solid external water cooling system that'll allow me to cool my processor and video card. Any suggestions? Price isn't a factor, I need something that'll work well -- better to spend 300 bucks now than 3000 down the line to replace a fried system.

Right now, I'm ghetto cooling it: Took off the side of the case, and put a bowl of ice cubes about 6 inches from the case, with a fan blowing the cold air from the cubes into the case. Sure, it might be semi-humid air...but the air in this area is fuck all humid anyway.

The Koolance Exos is the best external solution at this time.

yeah, i've seen three different ones.

The Exos, one from Cooler Master and one from Thermaltake.

Does the Exos have a way to cool the video card?

You will get better performance with your money when you make it yourself. you can just mount everything externaly to the case. However if you have some room in the case and don't mind spending time on it, put all of it inside.

If you are not overclocking im guesing you either use stock cooling or your rooms ambient temp is pretty hot. however if you dont care about the OC just use better air cooling? Unless you want somthing quiet then I understand.

I'll be going with water cooling because yes, it does get hot in the area I'm in. I'm MORE worried about the temp of the video card than I am of the processor.

What kind of video card? with a dangerden maze 4 gpu block on my x800xt It maxes at about 32c, thats on the same loop as a a64 and cooled with a dual heatercore + 2 120mm fans.

You should really look at making you'r own system, learning the stuff if you dont already know. It is pretty simple. All you need is; Radiator/heatercore with a shround/fans to cool the water, waterblocks for whatever you want to cool, a pump, tubing. those are the only major parts. If you have a drill and a dremel its pretty easy to install also.

I also must agree with doing it yourself. These days, you can get parts the require almost no case modding.

I'm gonna give a video card cooler a try first. If I go watercooling, though, I still plan to go with an external system that is already built. While I COULD possibly pull it off myself, I'm NOT willing to take the larger risk of screwing it up and losing my entire PC. I'd rather pay the extra money to be more secure.

Actually, the security in either case is roughly the same; consider the following.

The tube strength for any given length of tube remains a constant whether or not you use an internal or external system. This rules out the majority of the locations where water can leak. The rest are in the connections. No matter how you set it up, you're going to have to make a few connections on your own. The number of connections increase with an internal, increasing the likelihood of a leak proportionally, but it is still a small number.

Ok, nevermind all that. You should do it internally. No matter what, you will be testing it without components for 24 hours and will know if there is a water leak. The results are so much better with an internal setup.

Finally, it is a waste to cool a video card alone, and video cards are setup to withstand greater temperatures. It's alright if it's reaching 70C, and you likely won't be able to cool it very drastically (water cooling for video cards is not on the same advancement as CPU water cooling because of this).

if you're gonna be getting liquid cooling, make an evaporative cooling tower instead of using a radiator/fans! It's got the soothing watrefall-sound, as well as looking like a huge bong. Other benefit is that it can cool water to sub-ambient temperatures, which is better than any rad.

Doesn't that cause condensation?

If i do go liquid cooling, my goal is simply to get to a bit under normal temps -- i'm not after overclocking as I can't afford the high end stuff i'd need to do that in what I feel to be a safe manner.

nope. On an insulated system that had no real heat dumped into it it might, but as it is, running a CPU and GPU block will give the system enough heat that his best temps will still be just above ambient. Also, even if the system were shut down and the cooling still running, you'll only get to about 6-7 below ambient temperature (celcius) which shouldn't cause any condensation to speak of.

Hey Fal you live by the beach. Just run a hose from the Atlantic Ocean and use that. Possibly with help from the Turd Herd.

See that's how mages solve their problems. That or they get druids to fix it.

What, they devise solutions to ruin their delicate systems?
