I own a ASUS A8V Deluxe Motherboard and recently purchased a Seagate Barracuda 160gb hard-drive and had plans to install it last night..

I found out that the IDE Cable plugs into the motherboard but theres no slot on my hard-drive to connect it on that fits the IDE cable.

The only ports on the Hard-Drive are these:

Help? :x

we sell them for $6 a pop.

Are you sure they didn't come packaged with your motherboard? Does your motherboard even support SATA?

Asus A8V Deluxe Info

It says it has 2xSATA support if you have the Promise Raid card (which it doesn't specify if it's onboard, seperate, or optional, from what I can tell)...

If it did, it should have come with SATA cables and perhaps you just overlooked them. If you purchased the MBD seperately, check the box and such

I had to run out to Commerical Arts class, so I'll check one I get home, I put bunch loose wires I had in a box perhaps those were one of them..

Hopefully.

So the sata plugs into back of hard-drive and then where on the MB? Same spot normal IDE would?

No, it plugs into the SATA connector on the motherboard.

Check your manual, odds are, you don't have SATA connectors and will either have to buy a PCI SATA controller, or scrap the drive

And how much do PCI SATA Controllers cost?

For plain SATA support I don't know.

The 4 drive SATA RAID controller I bought for a server late last year cost $350. 3Ware cards *rock* though.

That is overkill for what you would need by far though. Since you won't be even running RAID, being as you have one drive.

According to this that mb has SATA ports on it.

It's the two blue ports near the left corner of that picture.

Ok excellent! Thanks I have SATA Wires I found in the box!

Now I plugged the 2 wires onto the HD but they are loose at the other end? Where do those plug in? They don't fit Mobo doesn't look like.

Search for an online copy of the motherboard user manual, if you don't know where your paper copy went. It should show you with a diagram where to find the SATA ports.

[edit] Looks like Yuri found them. Those two thin blue things on the left edge of the picture (bottom of the board) next to the aquamarine/cyan plug housing.

My HD:

Those wires all fit so I assume they are correct, except there no wire in that last port to the right of the rest.

And heres the end of the multi-color wires the white thing that I don't know what is for..

Really I have no clue where to put them in.
