BFR information :
quote:
Acquiring a BFRIn order to use a BattleFrame, a character must first become certified in that BattleFrame. But in order to do this, the character must first successfully create an authorized imprint with the Auraxian Core so that the identity core within the BFR will allow the human to integrate fully with itself. Without this integration, the player will be rejected by any BFR they try to board.
To create such an authorization imprint, the player has to become recognized by the Auraxian Core by participating in energy exchanges within the caverns. These "energy exchanges" that the Core recognizes are facility ownership swaps. A player must have participated in at least 10 cavern building captures (AT Plants, Redoubts, or Module Buildings) in order to become "imprinted" in the Core Complex. Once a character has been imprinted for BFR control, that imprinting lasts forever, until the player voluntarily unlearns that certification. If that occurs, the player must re-imprint by participating in more cavern building captures and returning to the Core Complex.
Once this is done, players will acquire the BFR from the BFR Shed. The Shed is a freestanding building which will be located in the courtyard of all facilities, separate from the existing vehicle terminals with an order terminal attached to its side. They will then be seated in the BFR, similar to how they are seated into vehicles at the terminals.
To customize the weapons on the BFR, the player may approach a repair/rearm silo to begin swapping out different weapon attachments and ammo loadouts. These loadouts may be saved to their vehicle favorites, as they would another vehicle loadout. Once BFR Favorites are saved, players may order these favorites directly at the BFR shed.
Configurations
There are three basic configurations of the BFR, the one-man variant with no installed flight or gunner pack, the one-man variant equipped with a flight pack and the two-man variant equipped with a gunner pack.
The Flight Pack allows the BFR to perform a jet-assisted leap into the air. The flight pack is powered by a continuously recharging capacitor. This capacitor will require a minimum amount of energy before it will allow a jump.
The BFR can jumpjet left, forward, right, and back while in the air. However, moving in any direction with the Flight Pack active will slow the ascent of the BFR. The BFR can maintain altitude by pulse-thrusting as it flies and allowing the capacitor to recharge between pulses. However, they have virtually no glide so thrusting must be carefully managed to stay aloft.
The Gunner Pack adds a second seat for a gunner and allows the pilot to add a gunner weapon to the BFR. From this position, the gunner can rotate a full 360-degree and has a high degree of up/down control for the largest field of fire possible.
NTU Siphons, Armor Siphons and Pilot/Gunner weapons (described in a future article) may all be exchanged in different configurations. NTU or Armor Siphons may be equipped alongside another single pilot weapon, but are fired separately (similar to swapping weapons on a soldier). Pilot weapons may be equipped in a dual configuration with two of the same weapons. Gunner packs support a single weapon from their pool.
Autorun
BFR's are able to enter an accelerated fast transit run mode with no loss of weapon functionality. Similar to MAXes, this transit mode will have an acceleration time and a deceleration time. So, while BFR's are able to travel and still deliver damage, they also have less fine control over their movement.
Hacking
BFR's can be hacked by enemy Empires like any other vehicle. However, weapons cannot be swapped at a rearm silo and only ammo commonly available to the Empire will be available to it (e.g. A TR will not have access to PPA ammo, even though they are piloting a jacked Aphelion).
Ramming Damage
BFR's will seriously harm Infantry that get underfoot of it, doing double the collision damage of vehicles. BFR's can use their jumpjets to accelerate into the air and drop on their opponents, doing greater damage the higher they fall from. BFR's must be careful using this tactic, as they do take falling damage as well.
EMP Effects
Electromagnetic Pulses (from Jammers, Command ability or NTU Siphon) will affect BFR's differently from other equipment. Rather than complete disabling weapons, EMP effects will have a localized affect on BFR systems, such as sensors and weapons systems (more on this in a future article).

Vanu Sovreignty BFR :
New Conglomerate BFR :
Terran Republic BFR :
It does, however, give you a good idea of how large these things are compared to normal soldiers. Khyron fucked around with this message on 09-05-2004 at 01:53 PM.
It could have funny killspam messages like the meteors too.
Too bad they're removing the feet.

as a non PS player, those shots look like some damn cool looking mechs, as far as mechs go.
edit: I just realised my favorite on the list, the red one, looks a lot like ED209 diadem fucked around with this message on 09-05-2004 at 04:23 PM.
I hate the NC one, though. NC = sux.
Less "OMG High tech futuristic supersonic electronic!" and more something you might see in real life.
"SHOOT IT IN THE ASS! THE ASS! BLOW UP ITS ASS!"
It's not something people hear about.

The VS BFR actually hunches over and has like a dozen small explosions before it goes boom
The other is just a few people all standing around 'ooh'ing and 'aah'ing over the VS bfr.
Khy- what's up with merit commendations? Is there any info on them and when they are coming out???
BFR's were originally slated for a end-of-september release. Many people thought they'd be out today, but apparently that's not the case...
