This big fat bastard shows up, and eats the 5 kingdom model whole:

Kingdoms of Domain Eukarya:
Diplomads,
Microsporidia,
Trichomonads,
Flagellates,
Entameba,
Slime moulds,
Ciliates,
Plantae,
Fungi,
Animalia.

Kingdoms of Domain Archaea:
Halophilic archaeans,
Methanosarcina,
Methanobacterium,
Methanococcus,
Thermoceler,
Thermoproteus,
Pyrodictium.

Kingdoms of Domain Bacteria:
Cyanobacteria
Purple bacteria,
Gram-positive bacteria,
Green non-sulphur bacteria,
Flavobacteria,
Thermotogales.

Humans are now: Eukarya animalia chordata vertebrata mammalia primates hominidae Homo sapiens.

How the hell is anyone to be expected to remember 23 kingdoms of life?

Remember, sometimes replacing stuff with newer stuff isn't a good idea. Though in this case, they may have been trying to eliminate the following phrase: "Life, or something like it."
Base eight is just like base ten, really... if you're missing two fingers. - Tom Lehrer
There are people in this world who do not love their fellow human beings, and I hate people like that! - Tom Lehrer
I want to be a race car passenger; just a guy who bugs the driver. "Say man, can I turn on the radio? You should slow down. Why do we gotta keep going in circles? Can I put my feet out the window? Man, you really like Tide..." - Mitch Hedberg
Please keep your arms, legs, heads, tails, tentacles, pseudopods, wings, and/or other limb-like structures inside the ride at all times.
Please submit all questions, inquests, and/or inquiries, in triplicate, to the Department of Redundancy Department, Division for the Management of Division Management Divisions.

Ahahahahahaha

I hated Taxonomy, and I had to learn the new model. I totally faked my tests, and still got an A on it. Proudest days of my life.

I also hated all of AP Bio. ahahaha

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it

Considering my memory is not unlike a sluice, I think I'll just avoid Taxonomy as long as possible...

Question: Is Taxonomy the same Tax as Taxodermy (sp?)?

Yes, both are from the Greek τάξις ("taxis") meaning "arrangement". In one you are arranging living things into categories, while in the other you are arranging skins (for display). While we're at it, a "tactic" is an arrangement of forces in battle.

[Edit] And nope, tax, as in what you pay to Uncle Sam (etc) is not related.

[Edit: Wrong question. Sorry.]

In the sense of taxonomy, it's "classification." taxis for arrangement, nomos for law; law of arrangement, or classification.
