Hey.

Just a little poll but since I'm not a subscriber...I can't do a poll...so fuck it.

-Do you play an instrument
-If so, how many and what instrument?
-Are you any good?
-Are you in a band? What is the band's name? What does the band play?

If you're gutsy enough, record yourself playing and post it.

DO IT NOW!

I play the traps, a little guitar, and a itty bitty bit of bass.

I'm only really good at the traps, been playing them for about six years. My band dissolved, so I haven't practiced much lately. I might pick it up again.

Well, the viola and violin are similar. All I'd need to do is adjust my fingers slightly for positioning (since the instrument is smaller) and get used to playing in treble clef full-time.

Ah. I used to play the violin. Played it for about five years. So you say it's just finger positioning because it's smaller? Like...how different?
Addy
posted 07-29-2004 01:42:08 AM
Not much. For the viola you need to stretch out your fingers a little to play on pitch-- to switch from viola to violin you just need to shrink the space. However, it's much easier to transition from viola to violin because we're already used to playing in treble clef (about 40%+ of the time). It's more difficult for a violinist to play the viola for the first time because our normal clef is alto.

Sort of.

I know a few songs on bass guitar.

-Are you any good?
Eh. I'm alright, I guess.

I played percussion for 5 years during middle and highschool.
I currently play the guitar with only one college semester of actual instruction.

Used to play piano, flute, and trumpet.
Used to be very good at all three...I pick up on instruments pretty easy once I get the basics.

1. Drums, for 12 years.

Yes.

Not currently, only one I was in in high school named themselves 'Jesus Bloodfuck Shadows' on the first, and my last, day of being around.

No microphone or other recording device.

Oh, and if we're going to link up like Voltron, Dibs on being the left arm. Or the right one. Whichever one that thing doesn't masturbate with.

-I was in Band all throughout school, if that counts.

Several reasons I can't record it. I haven't played my isntrument in a few years, it's probably WAY out of tune, my lip muscles have turned to jell-o, and it's too late at night.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

Yes (although I do more composing than playing these days)

-If so, how many and what instrument?

Tuba is my main, but have played all the brass (although my french horn playing is quite bad)

-Are you any good?

Well, I did get a degree in Tuba Performance, so, yes, I'm decent.

-Are you in a band? What is the band's name? What does the band play?

No, No name, Nothing.

-I play the snare drum, been about 9 years now.

-Well, in Highschool I took 1's (Top marks) in the Il. state competitions for three years straight. (They didn't let freshmen go )

-I was captain of my highschool drumline, and turned down joining the Phantom Regiment (A Drum Corp International drumline, they tour America and compete with other DCI groups) to stay with my bagpipe band, the Chicago Highlanders. (Second oldest band in the US. ) I've played in the world championships with them in Scotland a few years back, took 8th out of 32. So yeah, I think I'm within the top 15 snare drummers in Il.

I'll make a video of myself later drumming and see if I can put it up somewhere. Kinda in between some finals at the moment.

Edit: On a side note, the middle finger on my right hand is able to spasm from working with it so long. I once tried a button masher in a Mario Party game, and found I hit the B button 178 times in 10 seconds.

Seems EC has a fair share of musicians. I myself play the bass guitar and the harmonica. A shit load better on the harmonica then on the bass.

So what is our next task? We shall form a massive band.

Everyone needs to get microphones.

Yes, I play the piano too(My middle fingers are 4 inches long ), and a few years of trumpet, learned other kinds of percussion too in band. I just prefer snare drum to my drum kits. (I'll put up pics of those too later, hehe)

I play violin. I'm not too shabby as I'm in the second to highest orchestra at our school and I don't practice. (We have Five string orchestras at our school). I think if I were to practice or really truely care about it I'd be in the top class. I'm just lazy.

I've played guitar for about three years, electric bass for about two. I'm mostly self-taught; I know a moderate amount of music theory, but never really bothered to memorize any popular songs because I found it kind of boring and pointless, as I generally just play for my own enjoyment. I've never been in a band, but as I become more confident in my playing, I've been considering it more. I am going to be doing the score for an acquaintance's short film sometime soon, however.
