So, I know a lot of you are starting into either your first or second year. I think we even have someone graduating.

Let's here it, what do y'all plan on majoring in? Or, for those more entrenched in University, what are you majoring in?

I'm a curious little man

Computer engineering.

My concern is that the availability for computer engineering positions might be complete shit in 4 years.

Except I really plan on hitting up law school after college. My dad's a lawyer, and I've taken a law class in HS, and liked it. My dad would beat my ass if I majored in pre-law though because when he went through everyone that was having a hard time had majored in pre-law. It's his cash, so I'm ok with that.

Not a clue what I'll minor in though...

If you can stand it, pick up Linguistics as a minor (or something) and you'll have opened up a whole buncha jobs.

I'm majoring in Computer Science. Sophomore (although I'll likely be at it for at least 5 years)

Computer Engineering is for EE's that wish they could handle Comp Sci.

Vorbis is right. I'm seriously considering picking up like English as a minor, just because the fact that writing well is such a major part of the business world that it wouldn't hurt me. I'm definitely going to try and get the Technical Writing Certificate that my school offers, at least. Look into that.

It's all about getitng something that differentiates you. Experience, extra whatever.

Double majoring in Psychology (BS) and Philosophy (BA).

Plan on either pursuing a Ph.D in Philosophy and teaching somewhere or getting my Ph.D in some branch of practicing Psychology and then splitting my time between treating patients and teaching.

Either way, i have 6-8 years of school left in front of me!

Major=Computer Engineering

Minor = enterprise

Enterprise is unique to MTU, and everyone to have it as a minor has gotten a 60k+ starting salery as their first job.

Enterprise is basicaly your in a busness that gets paid to do research for a company. best part is you get paid to do work in the class.

Wow, I never realized how many CS/CE we have.

I decided to choose CE over CS because I like CS work just a little less to give CE work the edge. I've always liked circuits in electronics, heh. To be able to work for, say, Intel would be pretty damn awesome.

Much respect for soil scientists, actually. There's so little known about it as yet, and it is incredibly important.

You could pick up a handful of soil anywhere in the world, put it under the microscope and find a number of new species, and already classified species about which almost nothing is known.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.
