So my thusly faithful Maxtor 60gb hard drive is crapping out on me. It will stop being recognised by windows, and just crash my system. It needs to have the IDE cables fiddled with before it can boot again, because it doesn't show up during the POST.

But anyway I'm going to upgrade when I do this. I want a 120gb hard drive, spinning at 7200rpm, with a whopping 8mb cache. For a long time I know, WD was the only HD brand that sported said features. However, Maxtor, Hitachi, Segate et all have gotten off their asses and are now making similar drives.

But, I'm going to end up pricewatching the hard drive, because I don't want to spend much money on it. I'm leaning towards Hitachi, because pricewatch lists them for about $86 shipped.

So the overwhemling consensus is in, Western Digital, here I come. I'll probably order it tomorrow after noon, or saturday afternoon.

Anyone care to provide exceedingly awesome cheap links for a 120gb 7200rpm 8mb cache Western Digital?

New egg has one going for $90. OEM drive which means no IDE cable comes with it. Probably not an issue since you have cables now.

All times are US/Eastern
