I have a few questions, however.
#1 - Is it better to just add all the characters I want early on, instead of trying to add them as I go? With every new character starting at level 1, it's annoying trying to get them up to Laharl's level now. I've gone through that fucking tutorial battle so much I can see it in my sleep now.
#2 - If one of the residents in an item world is defeated by demons, does he vanish from the item? What happens there?
#3 - I'm almost level 9. What time should I stop dinking around powering up items, and actually move on with the story?
The second time I played, I sorta knew what I wanted for a party.
My advice: Go the the Dark Assembly and get More Expensive Stuff when you feel that you can afford it.
I used Item World to make cash and for leveling up, check the bonuses when you start the map, your looking for a few +EXP/+HL/Nice Swag bonuses in about the 6-7 area. Now check the Characters on the map and the colors of the Geo Panels and the Geo Symbols. This is where one would start planing to clear those panels.
As for character levels, how far into the game are you? Like, what episode? Almost any map is better then the tutorial.
On question 2: You just have to do the item again. If your party takes out the specialist, it will level up once you beat the item general and you can move it to another item once you return to the castle.
#2 - No. If I remember correctly, it just has to be killed by you in another stage of item world.
#3 - Now. I didn't bother with item world until at least level 20.
(as a side note... FF:TA has consumed my life!)

Khyron spewed forth this undeniable truth:
Wheeee. Okay, I'm starting to get the hang of this game. At first, going into the Item World was suicide for me. But now that Laharl is level 9, and Etna is level 8, and the others are getting up there too, I'm starting to get good at it. Geo squares are still somewhat confusing for me... possibly because I can't decide whether I like them or not. On the one hand, invincibility squares have saved my ass plenty of times. On the other, cloned Etna totally ripped through my party On the plus side, Laharl's new level 10 Swordbreaker kicks butt.I have a few questions, however.

1: It becomes easier later on to get those low level characters to high levels fast. Theres one level where all the tiles are invincibility except for one tile. You stack and move monsters onto that panel and then kill them. This makes leveling a low level character easy. Put one or two low level characters next to a high level one and do team attacks to get several levels on the lower level character.
2: Not sure, pretty sure that you can find the resident on a later level. Or you can go back into the item and find em again (not sure on this), if not either of those, then the resident is gone for good.
3: Eh, go do story every once in a while, then once you find a silver or gold item, go level it up as high as you can.

Edit: Remember one thing about this game though, the computer will ALWAYS go after your lowest level character. This can sometimes be used to your advantage when trying to move monsters to certain positions.

I've had four seperate games all go up to the 99'99"99 time mark. Goddamn me and having to max all jobs for every character.
I don't want to even look at my disgaea save file.
It just helps SO MUCH to have my fighters equipping level 10 swords, when I'm that early on, you know?
I got a rare gun, too (Dolphin EX, with Rarity of 0), but nobody in my team can use a gun worth a damn. I need to consider getting a gun-user of some sort to equip said gun.
I've learned the best way to power level somone : Enter into the item world, and try to do a color combo that clears away ALL the colors. If I do, my bonus gauge goes up to like, 7, and I end up getting a few EXP +200's in the end

Killing a level 254 monster as a level one and levelling to 20 or so in one shot is better.
It's level 5-3, btw. Main characters should be around level 20 to safely get to it.

Best gun users is the Strider class. Just level a female warrior and female fighter to like 10 or so to unlock a lot of the better melee classes.
How the FUCK do I tell whether the new character I'm making is male, or female? I can't see any clear indication of it It's the brawlers and warriors I'm having trouble discering between.

The female fighter has pigtails and a bodysuit. The female warrior has green hair. Or just squint real hard and look for boobies.
Edit: Actually, female anything is normally better then the male counterpart. Kael fucked around with this message on 06-07-2004 at 02:50 AM.
Mages > Skulls. Female Cleric > Male Cleric. Samurai(which are females) > Ninjas(males). etc etc etc.
I need to make some sort of mage to teach my Cleric some attack spells My cleric kicks ass.

Teaching Laharl and Etna to cast cure (And, if your cleric sticks with you long enough, mega cure or whateveritis) can be helpful in a pinch. It won't have the range, or the power that a similarly levelled cleric's spell would, but it's a lifesaver sometimes, and can keep your inventory free of nigh useless gums and crap.
Oh, and if you get a new skill (Like, by level, or by getting a previous tech to a higher level) go to the training map and practice it a lot. It helps. Cure spells will get better square coverage, attack spells will get stronger (Same better attack coverage), and you'll unlock new spells.

Not as good as transmigrating your attack magic users into healers. Or vise-versa. I love my Giga Star-casting Savior.

Problem with that, is if I have to be Rank 3 to Transmigrate, getting a healer to be able to survive the exams is tough. So I'm going to teach her the three magic types, one by one, while I'm working my mages up to level 10 so I can get a Star Mage to teach her... and so on, and so on...
My eventual goal is to have two clerics with tons of uber magical stuff, one uber mage, two archers, and the rest being uber melee.
Is there any way to change who's a mentor/pupil to whom?
I figure I can use three mages to replace those stupid prinny's that Etna hired. Stupid prinny's. I hate them. I HATES THEM. Khyron fucked around with this message on 06-07-2004 at 12:27 PM.

Prinnys can be powerful later on dood. Letsee, I think when you throw them at an enemy, half thier hp is turned into damage. Think about that dood, a few insanely powerful Prinnys could be turned into uber nukes. Willias fucked around with this message on 06-07-2004 at 12:28 PM.

Suicide bombers who constantly have to be rezzed after every battle?

True, but that also makes them nigh-useless for the item world... 10 fights before you can rez your uber nukes...
Besides, my best prinny right now is level 6, and has like, 60 HP. My level 6 brawler can easily outdo 30 damage, and doesn't need to die to do it

No.
And I, personally, wouldn't use that many mages. Just teach one every kind of magic through Transmigration. (Later on, Transmigrating someone is no big deal, and you'll do it all the time. Transmigration makes people more powerful! The higher total levels your character has ever had, the more bonus points they get!)

I'm DEFINITELY going to want a minimum of two that are healer / mage combos... just because that's how I am
But yeah, transmigrating is probably the way I'll eventually go... once I get all the different mages needed to get Star / Galaxy / etc.
Wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't on the 3rd floor of the item world, and I had to fight through 7 floors with only 4 people... Khyron fucked around with this message on 06-07-2004 at 04:51 PM.

I'll just transmute some sort of unholy archer / strider hybrid that uses ranged attacks to humiliate everything in its path.

If you've cleared level 10 of an item world before, you should have at least one of the Exit items by now. ALLWAYS take one into item world with you, it allows you to exit from the item world at any point.
Also, I'll tell you this now (but in spoiler, just in case you really don't want to know). When you get "her" in your party (you'll know who when you get her, she's your first female addition), give her a staff. Forget what it looks like she should use, go staff. Then, have her learn the spells from pupils. It may look lame at first, but she'll be wicked sick later on.
Also, please note that Monsters and Humans have different transmigrate lists. Monsters trans into monsters, and humans trans into humans. But Prinnies are on both lists, and have access to ALL options when transmigrating. Interesting, isn't it?

I need to fix my controller and start playing again. For some reason, it hasn't held my attention past the uberlevelling level (Mostly cos it takes a longass time to set up and weaken the mobs to level signifigantly.. bleh), and I'd been neglecting.. her.

I'm chasing her right now... only thing is, I'm trying to level up my team so there's not this giant fucking level spread...
Laharl is 12...
Etna is 9...
Warrior is 6...
Brawler is 7...
Cleric is 6...
My three mages (whom I am keeping around ONLY until I get them to level 10 so I can get a Star Mage), are levels 2, 3, and 3...
I'm thinking of creating a Scout (Since Strider isn't available yet! But Scouts are the same, I am told...) and giving him my silver Dolphin EX gun... then having him and the mages just do the tutorial a shitload of times to level up

Yeah, Strider is the name of the class, it's also the 4th version of the class. The order is: Scout > Surveyor > Ranger > Strider > Geo Master > Lord.
Also, I guess as a heads up, the Samurai class starts as "Ronin" and it's order is: Ronin > Samurai > Bushi > Kengo > Blademaster > Shogun.
Sorry if that confused you.
Oh, now that I think about it...you have a good leveling map comming up in the 3rd episode. Actually, the 3rd episode is pretty good for leveling in all the stages.

I can see why so many people stick with only a few characters that have been transmigrated a few dozen times.
