I don't know anything about either of them.
List which one you would buy or already own with a pro and a con about it.
Then why you would or would not buy the other.
Normally I get ignored, but I really would appreciate a little guidance in this area.
Edit: I have looked around, but I still don't know what the hell would be best. I don't want you all to think I'm BacardiMunch fucked around with this message on 05-28-2004 at 05:46 PM.
completely lazy.
S'what I do with my MP3 walkman.
It's not something people hear about.
or, if you want another type of MP3 player, just shop around for those and get a tape deck converter like Sean suggested. Or a generic FM transmitter from Belkin (more expensive but good if you don't have a tape deck, like me).
The 15GB Dell Dj is a mere $200, and an extra $50 for the adapter will still be significantly cheaper overall than most other comparable MP3 players.
It has crazy battery life (though you won't need it in the car since that adapter kit I listed has a power adapter) and is based on Creative sound techonlogy. It even has EAX effects. I'm personally buying the more expensive iRiver iHP-120, but since I've been in the market for a MP3 player I've been doing a lot of research. My handheld is messed up, though. I need to see if I can fix it.

What he said.
Kenwood MP3 player in the car (i got it because I saw Bajah's and saw how much they ROCK. No CD change on a 4 hour drive kicks ASS), and a iPod for everything else.

I like how iPods are so trendy that Apple doesn't even have to make an effort to compete among better valued competition

Or that I bought my iPod back when the rest of the competition sucked ass, and the iPod was by far the smallest of the devices, and was what I wanted?
Yeah, go ahead and bash my choice of MP3 player. It works for me, I was able to afford it. *shrug*
How about I claim you're just pissy because you can't afford something more expensive? No, see, I wouldn't do that -- because THERE IS NO REASON TO. You get what works for you, I get what works for me. As long as I'm happy, and you're happy... WHO GIVES A SHIT*shrug* Falaanla Marr fucked around with this message on 05-28-2004 at 07:05 PM.

I'm talking about the current situation, especially since Munch is looking to buy in the near future. In the past week I've been conducting research for my own purchase, and as it stands now Apple is making very little effort to compete. They are dead sexy, but for the same amount of money as a 15GB iPod you can get a 20GB iRiver with double the battery life, more features (including the feature that allows it to automatically act as a USB hard drive instead of requiring you to install software to access it), and of course more hard drive space.
More bang for the buck. Apple needs to catch up. But since currently they are VERY trendy to have, they really aren't losing that much money by not doing so.

I was dissing the iPod. It was pretty clear.
I'd go with that because its a bit bigger then one that Kegwen posted for like $40 more. Which can be very nice, depends on how much music you want on there. Then just get a car kit. The only downsides to the Nomad's is their rather short warrenty and their low damange resistance

Based on my own research, I recommend this, but I was giving him the most cost-effective solution. Personally, I will be going with the iRiver that I linked, unless Apple makes a big comeback this weekend.
edit: unless, of course, he really needs the 30GB. Then, the Zen is *definately* the best bet. Kegwen fucked around with this message on 05-28-2004 at 07:12 PM.

Yeah I saved that vid to my main computer just because I was amused by it.
That seems like a pretty horrible thing to do to your product; usually companies make batteries replaceable then cut a deal to make special batteries themselves for their special-needs item (like RC cars; the RC car companies own the battery companies that sell the batteries to the bigger, higher-end RC cars). They don't make you go out and buy a whole new product.

Nonreplaceable batteries suck ass. I'd rather tote something the size of the discman around than deal with having to send the device back to Dell or wherever to get batteries replaced once a year.
The batteries last a good 3 years without issue.
my ipod has been going strong for the past year and a half

The batteries are now replaceable, but only by Apple dealers. Plus it's a $99 charge.

I'm sure that varies... some people have their battery die in a year and a half.
