the other day I was at my LFS and they had a tiny lionfish there. Now normally they are a danger to a tank because they will eat small fish in the tank. But the tank I put him in doesn't have any fish small enough for him to munch on. He is only about 1.5 inches long. Maybe 2.

This isn't the best image of him but he is pretty shy right now.
That big thing sticking out of his mouth is the tail of a guppy.

The way they hunt is really cool. They move up very slowly behind a target so it never sees him coming. It them uses its large fins to corral them into a corner. When it strikes it swallows them whole. The strike is so fast you almost don't see it.

Arent those supposed to be poisonous?

Or maybe I'm thinking of a different, yet similar fish.

They're poisoness. They sting with their spines.. I don't think their venom can kill a full grown human, but you'll have to ask Azizza for that.

They are highly poisonous and people do die from them every year. However for most people the poison is just extremely painful. Only an allergy to the poison will lead to death if untreated. It is more common than an allergy to say bee or wasp stings. A guy at the Local shop got stung by one a couple months ago. His arm swelled up to about twice it's normal size and he cried like a baby. But it was past in a few days.

And you are thinking of Pufferfish being deadly to eat if cooked wrong. Although I assume the poison glands of a Lionfish would be quite bad to ingest.
