At my school they have enabled a URL filter. Any site with the word "game" in it, or any e-mail has been blocked. Even this site was blocked. I can't go to www.evercrest.com but I was able to get in by http://forums.evercrest.com.

The message that pops up is

ERROR

The following error was encountered:

Does anyone know how to get past this?

Able to install software on the school PCs?

Have a PC at home with a broadband connection?

If so, you could set up an HTTP over SSH tunnel (assuming they let SSH through the firewall, many do). Don't have any links handy at the moment, but a google search for HTTP, SSH, and tunnel hopefully should find it.

Another possibility is to set up your PC at home (if it has a broadband connection) as a proxy server, and have the school PC use it as a proxy...

Might want to check back issues of 2600, as they have written a LOT about proxy avoidance in the past.

How do I set up my computer at home as a proxy? And how do I get the computer to use it as a proxy. (yes, you can download software, yes, I do have broadband)

I don't have a favorite proxy server software myself. Do a simple google search on "proxy software", or check out download.com, sourceforge.net, etc.

For changing the computer to use the proxy, Assuming IE6,

Tools->Internet Options->Connections->Lan Settings and check/fill in the proxy settings there with your new proxy server. (may be more complicated if you have a proxy server already configured in the browser, if so, then again, have to recommend either backissues of 2600, or seeing if they might have some of the info up on 2600.com).

If I go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS a message pops up: This operation has been cancled due to the restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

Is there anyway to do that with Netscape. The restrictions don't apply with netscape.

you could actually do your schoolwork during this time instead of screwing around on the net?

If using a proxy just make sure you don't get caught. My cousin scored a couple of detentions for using one nearly lost school comp. rights.

Do work from other periods, then.

another way is to use a secondary DNSthat reroutes the URL as a "clone" not the real on you are after. I know www.dyndns.org has a service that you can creat a simple address to get to another address.
I set one up to bypass my schools filters, so try this.
edit: helps to spell it right

Oh, shut up.

Help him out and don't judge him. If he's skipping work, he'll suffer for it later. And then you get rub your chubby hands together in glee and laugh maniacly as his life crumbles to ruins. Ruins.

We spent 6 years trying to circumvent our firewall. It's a neverending struggle mainly between boarding students and the network adminisitration, but day students with free periods (like me) often end up searching for ways around. However, I'm done in that school (as of like a week ago) and I never really found a permenant and effective way around, so

Well actually, try this:

nevermind the leetsauce.net bypass doesn't work for hotmail.
