I hate the great gatsby, i completly fial to see why tis cosnidered one of the greatest works of american literature, its a fucken soap opera, yes i see how youc an draw parells out of it to countless deeper meanings, but you can do that with anythings

I hate the concept of litary critiscisms, its not realy that hard to write more then five pages arguing a thesis based on a book, hell, even though its anoying, quoting the book can help a paper and give it more credablity, i understand the point of doing that, but by requring the citing and quoting of atleast 4 secondary sources in a 5 page paper, you not only make the bulk fo the work of the paper hunting down said quotes and modifieing your thesis to fit them, but the paper becoems much less your arguement, then it does as a frame for the agreeing or disagreein with others opinion, not stateing your own

and ive never been fond of writing 5 page paper and doign resaerch in one night when ive had weesk to do it, but thats my fualt, so cant realy btich abotu that

I've always abhorred doing that secondary sources bullshit for literary analysis. I can form my own opinions, thank you.

Gatsby is sort of weird, but I thought it was cool.

As for secondary source-using paper writing... if anyone likes it, I think that would be considered a fetish. Strange.

Gatsby didn't suck as much as Catcher in the Rye, Onlty book that sucked even more was the Scarlet Letter, that was hardcore suckage.

I just read All Quiet on the Western Front...Dunno why you don't have you read that in school, It's a great book. Slaughterhouse 5 I understand not being read in schools, the stream of concensness style can be a bit hard to follow for some.

The Scarlet Letter is all kinds of torture. The sad thing is I willingly chose to read that because a friend of mine said it was a fantastic book (no sarcasm). -_-;

Great Gatsby is OK, I'm not a huge fan of it, but the movie is horrible. Stupidly horrible.

Sorry.. But 1984 blew chunks for me. I hated having to read those post-war anti-communist books cause they were basically all the same.

The only interesting about 1984 was how some of his predictions of our world came true... (cameras everywhere and so on)

I didn't mind the Great Gatsby.. I mean, I wouldn't read it again.. I think I only enjoyed it because I had a great (and funny) teacher who read it with a nice southern accent.

Probably my favourite read in HS was To Kill a Mockingbird and Shakespeare.

It was depressing. How people viewed Boo Radley and the treatment of the black community in those days where they couldn't get any decent justice because of their colour. And how anyone who tried to support them were shunned.

I thought it was really depressing. Maybe not as much as the other forced books, but enough

Anthem was the only book in the "post-war crap" that I didn't mind reading.

I read both Macbeth and Hamlet before it was offered.. It was boring hearing some of the flunkies in my class trying to read it... (I had grade 13's in my grade 12 class...) They were stupid, but they thought they were better than the rest of us cause of their age.
