Well I was at Blockbuster, and I've always been a western shootout movie fan, so I thought I'd take a look at this game. After playing for 2 hours, I decided it really isn't that bad. Here's the game broken down:

Graphics: Nothing special, on a scale of 1 to 10 about a 7. The whole game is done as if you were watching it on TV. By this I mean, there are random white lines and specks that just kinda apear during the cinimatics. This gives the game more of a movie tone, which I like alot. The actual game play graphics are the same used in the cinimatics. For a good parallel think of Madden 2004 style graphics, but with cowboys instead.

Controls: They are real easy to get down, but actually controling the character is hard. For the simplicity of learning them I'll give them a 6. As with most PS2 shooters, the left stick is used for movment, and the right for aiming. The only problem with these is that it is too easy to either over move the right stick or under move it. Also, to use your gun, you have to hold down L1, otherwise it holsters it, this can be very annoying.

Gameplay: Very fun and fast paced, a 9 out of 10. There are usually 5-10 people shooting at you during any fight. You can use cover and hide behind it, aim, then move out and shoot. Also, a nice little added feature is the Dead Eye Mode. It works alot like Max Payne's New York Minute but you dont really move alot rather than it will auto aim for weak points when you put the cross hairs over the target. For Red (the main character) this is one shot, but can be very deadly. For Swift Jack however (the first other character you get to play, he uses two pistols) this is 12 shots at a single target. There are "bosses" for each chapter, and they can be hard as hell. But the Dead Eye feature helps tremendously. One of my personal favorite features is the Shootout Parts. This is where it is you and one other NPC have a quick draw match so to speak. In summary, the game slows down and it is just you and the other guy, you have roughly 5 seconds to place 6 targets on your opponent. These can range from weak shots to heavy damage shots; the only problem is, your cross hairs move as though there is ice underthem, so you have to learn to make your 6 selections very quickly and in a straight line so to speak to maximize your damage.

Story: Very weak, but I didn't expect a good story with it, so its all good. If you want a story get another game, this is only a 4 out of 10 if you ask me. Pretty much, you are a bounty hunter, and your father gets killed and you are trying to avenge his death.

Overall: Great game, I'd give it an 8 out of 10. The only thing holding it down is the story, it is very weak, and the controls. If you want a shooter game, at least rent it. Not really worth buying but, I'd at least give it a look at.
