I need to know if you would need drivers for an external CD-writer if I'm running Knoppix (CD-bootable for of Linux).

I know diddly shit about linux - I just need to know if I need to somehow find drivers for my HP 8220e CD-burner before 7am this morning.

Just boot up Knoppix and find out. It seem to have drivers for most things on it though.

It should have a generic 'external CD-RW'-driver, but that would probably vary from distribution to distribution.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Considering that I had to leave this morning at 7AM, and the thing I was askig about was the only way I had to rescue data off of a crashed system (no internet to check the thread), and the place where I'm heading is almost 3 hours away and I wouldn't be abck there for quite some time...

It was very important to me.

I just got home, and this thread was posted in too late anyway (thank you for all the replies, though! I didn't have time to boot knoppix and find out, since my download of it failed 3 times, and it finished burning literally 2 minutes before I was out the door.
