Dell: You're on a budget, want to do some light gaming on the machine or use some software the Mac doesn't support.
It does depend on your needs.
Cost/performance will be about the same on either machine overall.
The lowest end Dell Laptop is about 800 bucks..
It will have a larger screen but weigh a lot more and has half the hard frice size from the base line iBook.
The true equivilent to the iBook is the 600M.
It is the same thickness and weight but a bit larger because of the larger screen than the 12 inch ibook model. Cost is about 200-300 more than the 12 inch iBook and right about the same as the 14 inch model.
the iBook has a better video card. Proc performance will be about the same with a 933 G4 vs. a 1.4 P4M.
However if you are going to be looking at anything over $1300 go to the Powerbook. You will get far superior performance (not to mention a better OS) You arn't going to be playing High end games on it. But the same can be said for the Dell machines.

I have dial up anyway so the only games i play are like starcraft, warcraft 2, and other old games.
15 inch powerbook is your best bet. Base model get the Ram from Crucial and you are set.
That 20 gig hd is a regular hd just i plug it into the laptop and use it right?
Get the Ibook if...
1) You are an elitist bastage who has to feel superior because of your "superior" computer
2) You like have no compatability with 95% of software (unless you are planning on doing graphics on it, in which case you would not be looking for a budget notebook...)
3) You choose computers based solely on how "cool" they look.
4) You are planning on only surfing the web, checking email, and writing AND printing stuff.
5) You don't want to worry about viruses
6) You are computer illiterate and don't plan on learning (In my opinion Apple is easier to use for complete newbs)
Get the Dell (or an equivalent notebook..) if...
1) You are on more of a budget than most.
2) You want to be compatable with your desktop (I assume you have a windows so you can game...)
3) You want to do some light gaming (yay for diablo etc.)
4) You want to be able to install any manner of programs you might have (hello Virus Protection, MS Office etc.)
5) You don't mind being more vulnerable to viruses
Ehh, I think I missed some points but oh well. If you want a more specific comparison provide links lol

Where Maradon often jokes around I get the feeling this guy is serious. How sad, backwards and pathetic.

I'm sorry you feel that way, however if you are going to insult what was said you should read the post more carefully.

Perhaps I should've said from the pro-PC point of view.

Mod you dont' have a clue about computers do you?
I don't know, tell me about the juggernaut of budget gaming laptops, the iBook?
I don't have anything against Macs, hell I reccomend them to people who just want their MS Word to work smoothly without worrying about drivers, spyware or virii, but if you want the cheapest possible laptop or want to play games other than a select few on it they are clearly not what you want.

You arn't going to find a budget PC laptop that can game worth shit either.
You will spend the same ammount on a PC or Mac laptop to get the same exact same specs.
a 1000 Mac laptop will be just as fast as a PC 1000 laptop as well as thinner lighter, and have longer battery life. If youw ant to play games you should not even be looking at a laptop.

It's entirely possible for people to need a mobile machine without being able to also have a desktop, in that case being able to run games from a year ago is quite nice.
It is also possible for someone to absolutely need a laptop to take to classes at the least possible price, PC laptops go lower here, you can get one for 800$ while iBooks start at 200-300$ more. It is also possible for someone to need some specialty software that won't run on OS X. Which is all I said in my post, well maybe saying 'productivity tasks only' instead of 'e-mail, web and office' only would have been more accurate.

I especially liked the part where he cited gaming as a plus, yet mentioned Diablo..
Since we all know that Blizzard doesn't port their games to Mac. Nope, not one at all, ever.
I mean, they still can't game as well as a PC, but he could have at least found a better example.

The I just chose that game arbirtrarily, but I don't think that Syris will want to have to buy a mac version of every single game they want to play.

Most games come with both Versions on the same disk now.
