I finished book six last night and as I am about to begin the slog through book seven I ask myself whether it will be worth it to go through seven and eight to reach the relative goodness of nine, and then go onto the abyssmal horror that would make even the most wretched pit fiend kill itself in sheer boredom that is book 10. Or so I have heard book ten described as such.

And I tell myself, "Yes Dr. Gee, much like crazy psycho-bitch english teachers have to be endured to reach the glory and joy that is UCSD, Robert Jordan must be endured before once again washing in the blissful delight of George RR Martin. For only after you have walked through the valley of the shadow of death, can you truely appreciate the glory that is to come."

I hope you will provide me courage through my trying times, for I fear going to bed, because it is then and only then which i must endure the tortures of boring dialouge, ultra-facist-feminism, and way to goddamn much character drudgery in place of real plot.

But off I must go, for I have to get up for work in only 5 hours, and I shall be grumpy enough as is even if i got bed now.

I think you guys are still in the minority. Parce, Bloodsage, and Geeorn, among a few others, have read and liked them a lot, I believe.

The most common complaint seems to be that he tends to kill off anyone at anytime. I happen to like that, adds some real suspense.

George RR Martin gets better as you read through the series. First book is kinda like the latter WoT books in the slow plot and huge amount of characters and developement, but unlike Jordan's story-telling which has gone downhill, Martin's has gotten steadily and rapidly better over the course of the 3 books. Martin also manages to do somthing that Jordan didn't, which is have a ton of character story-lines with lots of character developement while also moving the plot along.

Of course, Jordan did this well in the begining of the WoT series too, so only time will tell whether Martin can keep it up.

I'll also note that it's been a very long while since i've read Martin's books, so i'm just working on a kinda fuzzy memory.

Honestly, I think you guys need longer attention spans...that, or you have little taste for multiple inter-weaving storylines. I agree that Jordan needs to start pulling all the threads together or else he's going to lose it, but I've enjoyed every WoT book he's put out, including New Spring, which I just got a few months ago and promptly devoured practically in a night. But then again, I do tend to go through books fast.

Agreed. Don't rack on such oracles. They can obviously form an educated opinion about something by merely viewing a small part of the spectrum.

Us lesser mortals why try to limit our negative opinions to books we've actually read should be grateful of our betters.
