So make recommendations as to what i can buy. Greatest hits collections and such a re a good idea. Rock and Metal are what im lookin for.

Good luck, in fact some of the biggest reasons behind SOME downloaded unowned MP3's is th sheer fact older stuff is out of Print on CD now, and you can't find it anywhere, not even in second hand shops.
As far as finding something new, use the Launchcast thing, and make use of the "Similiar Bands" option to experiment and listen to stuff you may not have otherwise heard. It gives the Discography, release dates, bands and all that. Plus some even have links to where the CD's may be bought new or used in hard to find places.
Others....I'm not sure which sub-genre your into...
