Is it at all possible to block with weapons? If so, does it block often enough to make using a two-handed weapon worth it?

I'm playing a Warrior right now, and I'm using a saber and Bonemold tower shield, with... I think Imperial Chain armour, maybe mixed with some Steel or Bonemold. I want to know if I can just ditch the shield and use a claymore, 'cause big damage would really help against spellcasters whereas a shield obviously wouldn't.

Fighter: "Like how quantum mechanics describes how subatomic particles can spontaneously pop into existence at random!"
Thief: "No, that's stupid and stop making up words."

nope. Block is a shield skill only.

What I did was max all my skills and attributes then just wear a bunch of attribute-enhancing enchanted clothes. I was armorless and weaponless. (If I needed a weapon though, I just used a shardblade.)

Does going weaponless actually work? I know it does on NPCs, but I could never get monsters to drop into unconsciousness (or get their HP to drop) from just pummeling them with bare fists.

As for myself, I ended up using a Daedric Longsword/Dai-Katana eventually. At the end of the game I was using Sunder as my main weapon, even with like 32 Blunt skill to my 100 Long Blade it was the best weapon I had. I went back and went on a killing spree after I saved the world, took out Lord Vivec in 8 hits or something, mercilessly slaughtered the entire town of Vivec after that. (Trebonius has some nifty stuff, but my custom enchanted things were just a bit better)

Edit - Oh by the way, if you want some high quality armor (it makes life a lot easier if you're having any difficulty) you can steal some Glass Armor (it's the best Light armor) from Ghostgate. Ghostgate is kind of in the middle of the world, the big crater/dark spot on the map has a magic fence running around it. If you follow it along the southern side you'll see Ghostgate eventually, it's the only way to get behind that fence (short of levitating over it).

It's possible some way or another.

I downloaded a weapon mod once that had "attack shields". I never really got into it, but I know they were in there somewhere. It was the equivalent of blocking with a sword.

"He lets the last Hungarian go, and he goes running. He waits until his wife and kids are in the ground and he goes after the rest of the mob. He kills their kids, he kills their wives, he kills their parents and their parents' friends. He burns down the houses they grew up in and the stores they work in, he kills people that owe them money. And like that he was gone. Underground. No one has ever seen him again. He becomes a myth, a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night. 'If you rat on your pop, Keyser Soze will get you.' And nobody really ever believes." - Roger 'Verbal' Kint, The Usual Suspects

Can only block with shields. You can download mods that create fake offhand weapons that are actually shields--i.e., you can wield your katana in your attack hand and equip a Reinforced Katana in the other, and while it will look like an other katana, it'll just be a shield. However, if you're wielding a two-handed weapon, you are blockless.

The damage on two-handed weaponry makes it worth it for most people. For me, I stuck with a sword/shield combo because it fit my character. However, keep in mind that if you're going to be ddoing a lot of mage-bashing, you're up against foes with a generally low endurance, which makes them more prone to being knocked down--which is much more likely with a claymore than a saber.

And yes, Unarmed is in fact excessively uber. A fighter-type with an Unarmed skill over 75 and a half-decent strength can take out pretty much anyone with his bare hands, between the fact that you kill their fatigue very quickly, it takes almost no fatigue to swing your fist, and you generally interrupt whatever they're doing when you hit them.

Oh, and if you have Tribunal, Ruv, then you may want to stick with your pattern (or at least go back to it in the future), it has a one-handed longsword that's one of the best weapons in the game.

As a sidenote, go download Morrowind Combat Enhanced. Makes it much more fun.

Blocking is for weenies.

Seriously, you can pretty quickly and easily develop your character to godlike stature. You're not cheating, but it feels like you're cheating.

Yeah, I usually jump 3 or 4 miles across some mountains and then fire a fireball down at the ground, completely annihilating 30 monsters at the same time

Eh, 2 handed is worth it up until the end of Tribunal. Then you're better off finding a nice shield and sucking it up.

I made this clicky amulet that did tons of damage. All I had to do was aim the bolt.

It was lame.

Playing a Mog character is very interesting, my last play through was as one. The game isn't that different, but it is a bit. Enough so to make it interesting. Definitely recommend trying it just on principle, as out there as it sounds.
