I'm playing a Warrior right now, and I'm using a saber and Bonemold tower shield, with... I think Imperial Chain armour, maybe mixed with some Steel or Bonemold. I want to know if I can just ditch the shield and use a claymore, 'cause big damage would really help against spellcasters whereas a shield obviously wouldn't.

As for myself, I ended up using a Daedric Longsword/Dai-Katana eventually. At the end of the game I was using Sunder as my main weapon, even with like 32 Blunt skill to my 100 Long Blade it was the best weapon I had. I went back and went on a killing spree after I saved the world, took out Lord Vivec in 8 hits or something, mercilessly slaughtered the entire town of Vivec after that. (Trebonius has some nifty stuff, but my custom enchanted things were just a bit better)
Edit - Oh by the way, if you want some high quality armor (it makes life a lot easier if you're having any difficulty) you can steal some Glass Armor (it's the best Light armor) from Ghostgate. Ghostgate is kind of in the middle of the world, the big crater/dark spot on the map has a magic fence running around it. If you follow it along the southern side you'll see Ghostgate eventually, it's the only way to get behind that fence (short of levitating over it). [ 03-24-2004: Message edited by: Nirrudn ]
Yes, I can knock most monsters out in less than 5 hits

I downloaded a weapon mod once that had "attack shields". I never really got into it, but I know they were in there somewhere. It was the equivalent of blocking with a sword.
The damage on two-handed weaponry makes it worth it for most people. For me, I stuck with a sword/shield combo because it fit my character. However, keep in mind that if you're going to be ddoing a lot of mage-bashing, you're up against foes with a generally low endurance, which makes them more prone to being knocked down--which is much more likely with a claymore than a saber.
And yes, Unarmed is in fact excessively uber. A fighter-type with an Unarmed skill over 75 and a half-decent strength can take out pretty much anyone with his bare hands, between the fact that you kill their fatigue very quickly, it takes almost no fatigue to swing your fist, and you generally interrupt whatever they're doing when you hit them.
Oh, and if you have Tribunal, Ruv, then you may want to stick with your pattern (or at least go back to it in the future), it has a one-handed longsword that's one of the best weapons in the game.
As a sidenote, go download Morrowind Combat Enhanced. Makes it much more fun.
Seriously, you can pretty quickly and easily develop your character to godlike stature. You're not cheating, but it feels like you're cheating.

I think there was 3 versions out, but the third was buggy or something so he took it down.

According to his site, it's still not done yet.
