Me and the fine goblin engineer Kegwen are building a computer. Something has come to my attention, however, as a difficulty: monitors.

The site we are using relies heavily upon ViewSonic. The problem? I have a ViewSonic flat-screen at my house and it is a piece of crap. Its speakers have blown out and it drops a signal half the time. It's poo.

Naturally, I am distrustworthy of ViewSonic. However, the alternative is to purchase a monitor elsewhere. I am always wary of buying outside the set. I would enjoy purchasing a monitor that comes with it. The ViewSonic was also purchased outside the set.

So I am at an alarm. Please give me your insight, friends, but do not blow the Horn of Gondor.

That's odd. How old is that viewsonic? Mine's friggin spiff-tacular. And it's generally held around the 'net that Viewsonic is a good brand.

ViewSonic occasionally has some bad engineering designs get out to the real world and those are the ones that nightmares are made of. In general though, they're pretty damn good monitors.

If you want one that you know is good, get a Sony, or go cheap and buy a Dell.

I was recommending the Dell P991 to him. It's what I have. It =

Any final opinions before I go to pitch this idea?

I have a Dell something or other and it hasn't had any problems since I got it some ~5 years ago.

Viewsonic is a fine company. You seem to have been screwed in that one instance, and you being wary of them is perfectly understandable.

If you insist on buying another brand, check into Sony Trinitrons.

The Dell P991 is just a Trinitron relabeled for distribution with Dell systems and I highly recommend it should you choose to go the used/refurbished monitor route.

I am using a ViewSonic A90+(or whatever the gray and black 19" CRT is that has the ultra bright screen) and love it. It might be the one to replace my 17" MAG DJ700 that will replace my Smile 17" which will go to my server.
