OK, anyone know of a good one that will not mess up my MP3s? I need to normalize ~ 1800 MP3s, as some are WAY too quiet, some way too loud.

Edit - Oops. Voted a 4 on a mis-click. Oh well, least it wasn't a 1.

So does that normalize w/o messing up bit rates, VBR, etc?

VBR is what I worry about the most, actually

I'll test it -- if it messes anything up, I'll just restore from ipod.

It doesnt seem to let me do multiple songs at once?

Ouch. Can't imagine going through a few thousand songs one by one.

Use Foobar's ReplayGain.

You can do track-by-track or album-by-album. However, I don't know if this will be supported on your iPod.

It's going take a long-ass time to do that many files though...you could always just normalize them when you rip them...

I never tried doing multiple files with that software honestly, I just used it to adjust the volume on a few tracks and it worked nicely for me. Originally I downloaded it for the ability to "crop" MP3s though.

The Foobar program is working pretty good. MP3 Direct Cut seemed to have some sort of problem, it was not reading the DLL it needed to edit MP3's, which it came with lol.

This will help with changing my FFXI music greatly.

[Edit: Will this convert MP3 to wav? Have yet to futz around with it.]

I use the old fashoined method.

I swear and curse, and wish death upon the mothers of people who dont rip in the same quality as me.

THen I buy the damn CD, and rip it myself.

They say a smile is a gift which is free to the giver and precious to the recipient. But giving the finger is free too, and I find it more personal and sincere.

I have ripped all 1800 of my songs in the same quality though :/

Difference is probably that they were recorded off of a total of 4 computers -- when i was originally ripping my collection, it was a collaborative effort between my laptop and my 2 PCs.

The only group of songs that is really messed up on my comp volume wise is the Lord of the Rings stuff. It is insanely quiet for some reason.

/me DLs the third program posted as well.

You do realize, even ripped at the same quality and rate, different prints of the CDs have varying tones as well. Some CDs will ALWAYS rip at a lower volume than another, even if you normalize it.

In fact if you mess with it too much, you will end up with distortion.
