55% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.
I'm Canadian, eh? Not Dixie.
Side note... WTF is a "Dixie"? Some American term or something?
I had to laugh at all of that hick talk on there.
For Ares: Dixie refers to southern U.S. dialect, while Yankee is the north. [ 02-26-2004: Message edited by: Arttemis ]

I got 49% Yankee, somehow..
It's not something people hear about.
Dixie is the Southern United States. I am sure you have heard the lyric, "I wish I was in Dixie.. away.. away.. in Dixieland I'll make my stand, to live o die in Dixie"
And it's Coke. And Car-a-mel.
Go, Go North Carolina!

Pop. Car-ml. Crazy southerner.
Very enlightening. Didn't realize a lot of those were dialects.

NO! If you ask for a Coke, you should get a Coca-Cola Classic. NOTHING ELSE.
It's just as ridiculous as calling every copy machine a Xerox machine.
argh

Then I will ask you to stop refering to the Playstation 2 as a PS2, that's an old IBM PC.
Also, on that subject, you really should use something more accurate than 'PC' or 'Computer' as well. Technically anything that adds numbers qualifies as a 'Computer' and 'PC' can mean everything from a C64 to an O2 box....
It's a coke god damnit. Sometimes to be refered to as a DP.

Back during the American Civil War the major front was refered to the "Mason-Dixon line". If you were one one side, you were a Yankee, the other side were Southerners (I don't think anyone refered to them as 'Dixies', but the area of the south was refered to as Dixie or in some cases Dixie-land)

40% still isn't that Yankee, really...more than I thought I'd be, though.

I got 49% Yankee. I am betting it is the Mischief night night question throwing favor to the north.

And it's Coke. Doesn't matter what brand, unless you're in a restaurant it's coke. Like copying machines are called Xeroxes for ease of speaking, and finger bandages are called band-aids. Or how tissues are called kleenexes. Doesn't matter.

I live in southren Jersey you barely hear that. Youse is really limited to the Urban areas extending off of Newark. You freakinsh people around here also seem to insit on calling batteries; bat-trees and Radiators; Rad-e-ators.

I had a LOT of stuff typed up in response to this. I erased it. Mostly examples. Anyway, it seems that I didn't get the point across. This part seemed to boil it down somewhat effectively:
Now, I realize that it's awkward and rather lame sounding to say something like "I am consuming a caffeinated beverage, my friend!" if someone asks you what you're drinking. I haven't found a conversational alternative (edit: a conversational alternative to using coke to refer to everything), but I refuse to use a single brand name as a general term for a large category in which several different brands are involved.
I just say "I'm drinking sprite". You can replace Sprite with any specific name. If you were to put "coke" in there, I would assume you were referring to one of the drinks that actually has the word "coke" or "coca-cola" in it. Examples: Cherry Coke. Diet Coke. Vanilla Coke. Those are cokes. Dr. Pepper is not. Mello Yello is not. Sprite is not.
And PC is a general term, referring to a category of computers. It's used in the same way as Macintosh/Apple. You're not really trying to be specific in that situation. :/
That's my take on it anyway. [ 02-26-2004: Message edited by: Kegwen ]
