Topic: Question - most efficient change to carry around?

To get nice change back (or no change) when making ONE purchase. Keep in mind that Canadians have a two dollar coin. The change must be able to make $4.99.

One toonie - $2 each
Two Loonies - $1 each
Two quarters
Three nickels
Three dimes
Four Pennies

15 coins you are carrying around that can make any amount of change up to $4.99.

No, just curious as to how much to grab when leaving the house.

Now that I think about it, it would be

One Toonie
Two Loonies
Three Quarters
Two Dimes
One Nickle
Four pennies

13 coins. That should be able to make any kinds of change...

I just let my change accumulate until I want to buy something from a vending machine or play an arcade game.

Am I bad person?

Once more into the breach, my friends, once more. We'll close the wall with our dead. In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.

First off...I use my debit card everywhere. It's easier.

Secondly, even if I did carry actual physical money, I'd carry a collection of assorted small bills and suck it up (or drop money in charity jars) to use up all the change, which is what I usually end up doing. And yet I STILL manage to amass quarters and shit.

Five pennies. Three quarters. Two Nickels. One dime.

Eleven coins. Well, it's what I carry. You could drop a penny or something if you wanted.

Debit charges you unless you have a certain amount of cash always in your account.

And change adds up so keep it!

I get 12 free debit transactions a month (which include any online purchases or movement of funds that would take money out of my checking account) and then it charges me $0.15 for each transaction above it unless i have $2500.00+ in my account when then 13th and over debit transactions go through.

It doesn't matter to me since I use my Visa everywhere. It's just that most of the times I go to Tim Horton's (a coffee and doughnut place that is 10x better than Starbucks and 1/4 of the price) which is cash only.

Canada is hell.

It's just his bank.

I live in the same city and I have never been charged for debit in my life.

"He lets the last Hungarian go, and he goes running. He waits until his wife and kids are in the ground and he goes after the rest of the mob. He kills their kids, he kills their wives, he kills their parents and their parents' friends. He burns down the houses they grew up in and the stores they work in, he kills people that owe them money. And like that he was gone. Underground. No one has ever seen him again. He becomes a myth, a spook story that criminals tell their kids at night. 'If you rat on your pop, Keyser Soze will get you.' I always loved that working at Tim Hortons, all the people coming in with no money on them, and being forced to leave hungry and thirsty with nothing after I inform them we only accept cash.

I always carry cash, I just like it more, quicker than doing the PIN and waiting for the acceptance. For small purchases at least, no way in hell am I going to debit like 3 dollars, would rather pop down 2 coins instead.

Thanks to Anachronox I know what a loonie is, but where the hell does the toonie come from?
I don't know how to be sexy. If I catch a girl looking at me and our eyes lock, I panic and open mine wider. Then I lick my lips and rub my genitals. And mouth the words "You're dead."

two dollar loonie. two loonie. toonie.

Took me a second to work that one out myself.

And here in the States, everywhere worth eating takes the check/debit card I have, and I don't get charged to use it. In fact the only time I DO get charged for using it is when I go to another company's ATM to get cash out. I don't even need cash to go to the movies.

The TWO only places I know that don't take a credit card around here is: Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A.

Our vending machines/drink machines take credit cards!

Timmy's have signs up at the drive thru and at the counter (and on doors and stuff) explaining why they don't take debit/credit cards.

"To insure constant speed of service to all of our customers, we only accept cash." or words to that effect.

Timmy's excepted though, pretty much EVERYONE else in Canada will take debit cards. (Heck, "Greco Pizza", the pizza/donair chain in the Maritimes will let you use debit card for Deliveries. The pizza guys have a cellular debit machine or something. Wish they'd get that for a chain in Ottawa. . The ONLY checks I write any more are the ones my mom writes to take loan payments out of my account and get them over to my credit union account. (since the Credit Union is 900km away from me), and the only change I use normally is when I'm gathering coins up to do laundry.

T-Ray, what the heck is a "donair"?

Did you mean doughnut/donut? Or is this some creepy Canadian thing like milk in a bag?
