The 5600 Ultra is a decent little performer, unlike it's non-Ultra brother.
A bit more than I planned to spend but I trust the brand and the specs were a lot better.

Z'uh? No more AGP?

Did you really just say "don't buy the good card! buy the value card that kinda works well!"? because that's how I read it. [ 02-23-2004: Message edited by: Kegwen ]

PCI Express has much higher bandwith. G5s have them and ATI has already signed on for the Tech. I assume the next gen of Cards will use it..

Former Nvidia Fanboy...but I say go with Radeon also. They rock. There arent any driver issues I've run into at ALL, and i actually have less game issues than I did with my nVidia

Yeah that's what I said. Why pay 200 dollars for a card when you can pay 100 dollars for a card that might run a little slower. Especially since your talking about "Save your money for the next generation of cards". [ 02-23-2004: Message edited by: ToastedFritters ]
Why waste a hundred more dollars? Look at the specs, the diffrence is not worth a hundred dollars.

Umm Guys. They are showing the 9800 Pro at over 300 bucks.. the 5900 was just a bit over 200.
Radeon 9XXX pro is like FX 5XXX Ultra. To compare them you have to compare the ultra models of the cards, or in your case the non ultra models.
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-303&depa=1
$143.
And according to benchmarks, these two cards run neck and neck, with the 5900 winning out in one place, the 9800 dominating in one, and ties nearly in the others. [ 02-24-2004: Message edited by: Falaanla Marr ]

ACES! Another post by The Unholy:
I've been looking at getting the ATI 9600 Pro, but the ATI 9600 has the same features as the Pro but 40 bucks less. What exactly is the diffrnce between the regular and pro version?
probably the ram bandwidth or the clock speeds. I don't remember off hand, but if it is just clock speeds and the 9600 uses the same width bus to access the ram, then go for it and overclock mildly.
No, Really. Bite me.

I'd seriously advise it. if it hasnt shipped yet you should still be able to. I only went with tne 9800 XT instead of pro because I could swing the extra cost when i had this system built.
And Unholy: Burger gives good advice.
The 5900 had already shipped.. Oh well. losing those big 3 frames a second won't kill me. [ 02-24-2004: Message edited by: Azizza ]

Yeah, its no big deal really. The FPS isnt what matters, it was more the savings in cost

If I would have gotten the ATI card I would have went with the 9800 PRO card not the lower end.
Why? You woulda had the same performance if you went ATI, and saved 35 bucks
It was to late to change anyhow and I am not overly worried about it. The 5900 is still a HUGE improvement over my 5600
