Whatever you see in episode 1, realize that alot of it won't make sense yet. You're missing out on alot of the jokes, and most of the plot.
And yes, there is a plot. Hard to believe, even near the end of the series, but there is actual plot throughout.

YOU'RE GOD DAMNED RIGHT!! I just watched it, and don't have the slightest fucking clue whats going on.
But it was pretty funny at first when Excel was going on to her master and getting out of control, then he'd shoot her.
After that, everything is a mile over my head.
And repeatedly every episode after that.
