I missed it when it came out to theaters. I don't even know what it's about. Did anyone see it and enjoy it?

Yes, it is good. Very good. The basic concept is a modern-day interviewer, who's interviewing a famous actress from japanese cinema in the 50's, who dissapeared from the stage decades ago. It goes through the story of her whole life, but in a really interesting and strange way. It's got a really weird directorial style, an actress telling the story of her life through her movies, with the reality and fiction of her life mixing heavily- matching thematically, as well as giving some indication of the true events. It's hard to describe, but wonderfully done, one of a kind.

Got a bit of comedy, lots of drama, etc. Definitely not your standard anime by *any* means, it totally avoids all those stupid cliches anime has becomes so enamored with recently. It features actual people, not walking pucnhlines or one-word characters.

Forget the term "anime." It's just a great movie: period. Definitely worth seeing.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Can you compare it to anything? Maybe Perfect blue?

Actually yes; it's the same director as perfect blue, and that does show a bit, in the mixing of fantasy and reality. That may feel a little familiar sylistically, though it is done very differently.

The other big difference is that this one is not a horror; it's much more... uplifting, a drama of unacheivable love. It's lighter, more airy than perfect blue ever was, which makes for a great movie. Of the two, I preferred Perfect Blue *slightly*, but only because I've got a real fanboy nature for creepy movies .

And my edit to the first post may help explain the plot a bit.

This is a drama, so don't go in expecting alot of action or whatnot. I loved the way it was told blending her life and the films. ^.^
