I just saw the commercial for this on Adult Swim and it looks pretty badass.

What can you freaks and losers tell me about it?

It's about a chick who uses magic and shit to hunt witches.

Really cool anime.

Can also be found on my FTP.

So what's a witch?

If she uses magic and shit, isn't she a witch? Or are we talking the wart-on-the-nose archetype?

She is indeed a witch, but she works for a witch-hunting company that...well...hunts witches. She lights things on fire. I got the first two episodes off Khyron's FTP, haven't watched but one so far so I can't tell you a great deal but one of the witches they fought had a semi-fro.

It's rather watchable, I don't usually like anime but I enjoyed that one.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

It's been my favorite series now for a while, watched the fansubs as they came out, and am now collecting the DVDs. In fact, I'm the one responsible for placing the fansub episodes up on Khy's ftp.

Premise is this: Witches live among us normal people. It seems to be hereditary/genetic and is passed down through bloodlines. They aren't normal witches in the sense that they cast spells and whatnot, but people that each have a unique extradordinary ability (Some have Pyrokinetics(Robin), other can animate dolls, others have control over different elements, can transfer powers or dampen them, etc).

An organization that was orginally founded by the Holy Church in Rome (I think that is how it came to be) hunts down Witches who lose control of their powers or start to use them purposely to harm others/steal/etc. There are branch offices in each country, and most of them hunt and kill out of control witches. The Japan branch is different in that they use a method to capture witches and instead of killing, they incarcerate them in a place called 'The Factory.'

Robin is a Witch herself, but was raised by the Holy Church to use as their tool against other Witches. (She doesn't think of herself as a Witch, but someone who can use magic spells) She is transfered to the Japan branch when one of their members dies on duty. There the series starts.

Oh..and in looking for other stuff just now...I found this article from Animenation.com:

quote:
Anime News: Live action Witch Hunter Robin confirmed
Mr. Joe Menosky, writer and producer for TV series including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and The Dead Zone, has contacted AnimeNation with confirmation that last Friday, January 16th, the Sci-Fi Channel closed a deal with Sunrise Studios of Japan to remake Witch Hunter Robin as a live-action American television series. Mr. Menosky will write the series and executive produce along with Mr. Roy Lee (who licensed the remake of "Ring") and his business partner Doug Davison.

According to Mr. Menosky, "There may or may not be an announcement in the Hollywood tradepapers -- which tend to wait until a pilot script is completed, greenlit for production, with director and actors attached before they consider a television series worthy of mention. But given the focus of AnimeNation, I thought you might find the project of interest."
