Honestly.

WTF is up with this?

I never ONCE saw ANYONE make fun of the kids in my gradeschool class that didnt make honor roll, the 4 of them were treated the same as anyone else. We didnt care.

Why does everyone have to bitch so much in this country?

If underachievers are embarrassed by not making honor roll, I think we all know whose fault that is.

When I was a kid honor roll students were considered nerds. They wern't necessarily shunned for it but no one ever said "Gee, I wish I was on the honor roll."

But if rewarding great performance is hurting someone's feelings then all performance must be treated with either equal indifference or equal praise. How else will our children learn they only need to do the absolute minimum in everything to be successful in life?

Anyone who does more is just a showboating little attention whore.

Hey, that rhymes!

Yes, because the way to improve education in this country is to further marginalize the achievments of the good students.

Pray tell, why are they listening to the parents of the stupid kids, who most likely are the reason why the kid is stupid in the first place, who likely will not contribute much to the school system? The only reason the kids aren't on the honor role is because either they don't study, or the retarded gene was passed down to them from their parents.

Abolishing an honor roll is pointless, as if kids are stupid, they're going to either get made fun of anyways, or just ignore it, as in some schools, just about everyone is on it, or the few who are are total brainiacs, so most of the school is not on it.

And if they're going to allow kids to have their names posted on the honor role with a signed permission form, that defeats the whole purpose of the ban, as every single parent will immediately sign the form.

The thing is there is an expectation of privacy for the grades. So in some twisted logic the grades are not allowed to be posted because the parents of the stupid kids will sue the schools pants off. However, if the parents sign a waver to the effect of giving up their expectation of privacy then there is nothing the anal rententive soccer moms can do to protect poor little retard Randys feelings.

It seems it's just the usual overprotective parents trying to use a legal loophole to avoid having to try to actually deal with an issue with their children. The one upside of this particular case is that there isn't a parent alive with a child who could be on the honor roll that wouldn't sign that form, so things will be perfectly back to normal within a month or two.

The only downside will be one more annoying form for parents to sign (along with the usual "No, I won't sue you if my kid stabs himself with a pencil"-type forms.)

This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

It sure is a good thing that promoting stupidity will help develop a childs' mental capacity.

I am not to pleased with those parents decision.

The honor roll doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Of course, I could get a full F report card for my final semester and still have over an "A" average. But, still, I don't think anyone at my school gives a damn one way or the other about being on the honor roll.

But what the heck is with that? Schools should make a big deal for everyone who does something good school related. Sports, academics, etc etc should all be displayed with pride. Myself, I prefer a little fascism to all this soccer mom bs. WTF are you if you're not trying to do well at something?

As my calculus teacher would say "Celebrate the discomfort of growth." Not being on some gimpy list isn't really something to cry about, but if it does hurt you, then just use it as an excuse to try harder. You know, not having any challenges is one of the reason why utopias are called... utopias.

I'm going to file this away under "Idiocy" right between the fat kids who sued McD's and the PETA section.

If anything, underachievers need to be humilated more. There should be a school day where kids get to throw eggs at the lowest non-special-ed, non-learning-disability GPA's in the school.

Another victim of the "sue schools" situation. People will sue schools more than they'll sue just about anything else. They won't fund schools, but if something bad happens, they're more than willing to sue.

Personally I think schools need certain protected rights in and of themselves, for the good of the country. But you won't see that until some calamity happens and the majority of people recognize education as being a necessity.

I mean hell, there's still rules in the books in North Carolina that a kid can legally drop out before the age of 16 if they're needed to work on their family's farm.

Given that countries like Japan have more stringent educational systems, and yet America is still one of the two major superpowers left (China being the other, largely because it can thrust insane numbers of people into projects), I'd say America doesn't suck. It just has it's priorities sideways.

Correction: America is going to suck when all the people who know what they are doing die and leave kids that the parents of todays <18 are left wondering what went wrong.
