When the Super Bowl comes on TV, it switches to a Canadian broadcast where Global TV(the station that will play it) will show different commercials than the American Television broadcast.

Isn't there some sort of law where 80% of all television broadcasts have to be about canada or canada-related?

Just like the French: you know your culture's crap when you have to pass laws to preserve it!

The actual reason Global simulcasts over the CBS feeds is because of CRTC regulations. If a Canadian network is showing the same show as a US network at the same time, then the CRTC says that the cable and satelite companies must broadcast the Canadian station over the US feed.

Of course if you are still watching TV with an antenna and are close enough to the border to get a US station that doesn't apply.

Wierdly enough though, at least with Rogers Digital Time shifting, if the western Canadian stations station is showing something at the same time as a western US feed (but a different time than the local time zone), it isn't simulcasted. For example, Simpsons on Sunday; if I watch hte western feed, Global-West is not simulcasted onto the Fox-West station.

All times are US/Eastern
