The nominees for best picture are "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," "Lost in Translation," "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," "Mystic River" and "Seabiscuit."
all good movies i think that TLOR:TROTK will get the oscar in a nod to mr's jackson work as a whole

The nominees for best actor are Johnny Depp ("Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"), Ben Kingsley ("House of Sand and Fog"), Jude Law ("Cold Mountain"), Bill Murray ("Lost in Translation") and Sean Penn ("Mystic River").

Ben Kingsley maybe bill murray

The nominees for best actress are Keisha Castle-Hughes ("Whale Rider"), Diane Keaton ("Something's Gotta Give'), Samantha Morton ("In America"), Charlize Theron ("Monster") and Naomi Watts ("21 Grams").

Diane Keaton

The nominees for best supporting actor are Alec Baldwin ("The Cooler"), Benicio Del Toro ("21 Grams"), Djimon Hounsou ("In America"), Tim Robbins ("Mystic River") and Ken Watanabe ("The Last Samurai").

Tim Robbins

The nominees for best supporting actress are Shohreh Aghdashloo ("House of Sand and Fog"), Patricia Clarkson ("Pieces of April"), Marcia Gay Harden ("Mystic River"), Holly Hunter ("thirteen") and Renee Zellweger ("Cold Mountain").

Renee Zellweger

The nominees for best director are Fernando Meirelles ("City of God"), Peter Jackson ("The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"), Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation"), Peter Weir ("Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World") and Clint Eastwood ("Mystic River").

i'm going with a gut instinct on this that peter weir will win

Bill won I think another award just a few nights ago for the movie he did. I'm guessing him.

I am so excited for Ken Wantanabe. He did such an outstanding job in the Last Samurai. I saw that film twice, and will buy it on DvD because of his performance.

What was the deal with Master and Commmandwhatever?

It was hyped beyond belief because of Russel Crowe, and then just faded off into obscurity. I don't think I know anyone who's seen it, either.

I saw it and was impressed. It had a quite good evolution of the characters, a good plot, and plenty of action. I'll buy it on DVD before I'd buy any of the LOTR movies or The last samauri.

Master and Commander was very good in a lot of ways that a lot of movies aren't very good. It was intellectual, acting was great, characters were well done, there was always a sense of that French ship lurking out there ominously...That said, there were a few bits where it got slow and dragged its feet. But overall pretty spifftacular, and the action scenes were awesome.

master and commander was a excellent movie, better than ROTK in terms that its more or less in the real world. and the acting was better. the scenery was better. the story to me was jsut as compelling and it didnt have a 30 mins of sappy assorted endings tacked on to it.

dont get me wrong ROTK was a excellent movie wheich i enjoyed imensily i jsut liked master better

Really? Because casting Russel Crowe as a battle weary haggered commander type was a huge stretch for him as an actor.

You're right, it didn't have much of an ending at all!

Damnit, I wish Last Samurai would've gotten a Nomination for Best Picture.

It was SO damn good, Better than RoTK imo.

I dunno, man, that ending was pretty unlikely. It had a couple corny moments.

Don't get me wrong. I liked Last Samurai. I just don't think it was quite up to oscar level.

I'd like to see Lost in Translation succeed somewhere, anywhere. Loved the movie.

Master and Commander was grand as well... It felt real.
