Name: Scurvy Parrot

Scurvy Parrot is a simple, fast passed pirate game. It is similar to board games such as diplomacy, risk, and settlers of catan.

The object of the game is simple – be the last captain left alive on the board. You can build armys of ships and plunder towns on your way to kill the other players' captains.

Players – 2 to 6

Rounds– You have a time limit of 1 minute to complete your round. You have three turns per round. Every peace can perform and action than move, or move then perform an action - for a turn. Actions consist of building, making demands from a town, loading or unloading crew, and attacking. Some units can't move.

Map – The game played on a hex based map. Various tiles represent different types of terrain. Maps are randomly generated every game

Building: Your buildings create crew and ships. Crew can create buildings.

Map Basics:
Map tiles – Only two types of tiles exist in Scurvy Parrot. Land or sea. Most tiles are sea tiles. Ships can not enter land tiles. You can not build on sea tiles. Crew can move on land and water.

Map Tokens – On top of map tiles can be tokens. There can only be one token per tile. Some tokens can be destroyed. Tokens can not move. Tokens include towns, player buildings, and whirlpools.

Map Counters – The sea monster, ships and captain are counters. They can move and have special attributes.

Token Basics:
Building tokens –
Town hall - Where your captain starts. You need a town hall to build anything that isn’t a town hall. You need to bring gold to your town hall to have it added to your gold stash. You may have more than one town hall. They have 12 hitpoints.
With Captian On Board: Cost to produce crew is for town hall is 3.

Docks – You can build ships on docks. You can repair ships on docks. They have 8 hitpoints. They can fully repair any friendly ship that enters them if that ship remains immobile for one turn. They also repair 1d6 damage on any friendly ship that touches them. You can only build a dock next to a sea tile.
With Captian on board: Ships can move as soon as they are created instead of remaining in dock for a turn.
Forts – Forts can attack up to two tiles away. The can not move. They have 10 hit points and repair d6 hit points every turn.
With Captian on board: Attack range of three. Reduce damage taken by 1.

NPC Tokens
Towns – If your ship approaches a town or you have a building touching a town, it can do a complete pillage, partial pillage, recruit, or force repair. Towns are defenseless can not be taken over. A complete pillage gives 5d10 gold and destroys the town. A partial pillage gets 1d10 gold and the town remains intact. A forced repair forces the villagers to repair 1d6 damage on a ship.
Whirlpool – Any ship passing through a whirlpool takes 2d10 damage.

Think a cross between risk and settlers of catan with pirates. Played on the web instead of on a board.

In your previous post you said it could be web based, client/server based, telnet based, whatever... has that rule changed?

It can be anything multiplayer. If you want you can even make a game similar to magic the gathering, have the cards printable, and have people just play with their friends. I don't want to hinder anything creative.

My game is web based.

Can we add game features not specified in this design document, provided we meet all listed criteria?

humm? You come up with the idea yourself. It can be pretty much anything. You don't even have to tell me what it is when you make it, so long as you provide us with a playable copy on the 1st. You can continue to include features into it after the release date, but be aware come the 1st of next month, people should be playing it or you will be disqualified.

This thread was just about the idea i'm probably going to go with for my submission to the contest.

Additional –

Docks can heal one ship per turn. If a dock heals the same ship two turns in a row, the ship is completely healed. To prevent abuse of this, you may not heal an undamaged ship.

If three or more ships are on a tile, the player may form a fleet. A player can move and attack with an entire fleet using only one turn. A fleet may only move as fast as its slowest ship. When a fleet attacks, every ship in the fleet that can attack the target will attack the target. A ship may use an action to join or leave a fleet. You can only join a fleet if you are in the same tile as the rest of the fleet.

A unit may not move more than once a round.

Ship types will have their names changed to something more appropriate.

Edit: Just spent $508 on VS.Net Professional 2003. The scary part is, that's a good deal. I hope I can install it by the 9th .

Damn. It's being shipped from CA. Got it off e-bay. That reminds me.... 21 days seems rather short. Think I should make it longer?
