Really not that bad until someone does something in combat. If Kenshin butts someone with the handle of his sword, the foe goes hogwild and starts screaming: "Holy shit! You just butted me with the handle of your sword!"
Then someone watching the fight would go: "AH! Kenshin just butted him with the handle of his sword!"
Then, they would spend a few more minutes talking about it before the bad guy goes: "Hm, you may have butted me with the handle of your sword, but watch THIS!"
And then they would clash and Kenshin would go: "AH! You blocked me when I tried to butt you with the handle of my sword!"
Then someone watching would say: "Hm, I understand now. He blocked him when he tried to butt him with the handle of his sword."
And by then, I've swallowed my bubble gum.

I don't see how huge phoenix-type creatures flying out of holes in people's heads and flying around with space pirates and attacking each other with guitars and giant hands attempting to grasp irons to FLATTEN ALL OUT THE WRINKLES IN THE UNIVERSE has anything to do with coming of age.
But I encourage you to explain. 
p.s. don't get me started on Berserk. Let's just say the series starts out like... Suck. Then it gets a whole lot better if you can just grit your teeth and take it like a trooper for the first, oh, 10 or so episodes. The next 10 or so are good stuff, honestly. Plus there's a lot of this hot naked chick in this one episode.
And then!
All the characters you've come to know and respect are suddenly attacked by demons (btw the sky turns into like, skulls and shit, and the ground turns into frozen screaming faces) and raped/killed. It's like, if not worse, than "Liam's fun fun house of hentai tentacle snuff porn". It was just really fucking stupid.

first episode of bersekr is horible, btu after htenat i lveod it
and black the anime series ended midway into the manga, whcih goes on with with caska surving the event but beign left tramtized and retarded, and guts protecting her and hunting down grfiith adn tons fo toehr shit, so its not as bad, none the less, i was very sad when judea died, he kicked ass, spaspoedly theirs a second season int he works, but im nto sure if tis true, the manga has recently bean realsed in america but i don thnk its passt the anime yet and if you search enough onlien you can downalod them all
