Dialup is a backup for emergencies (and my really old email addy that I dont want to change)
Broadband for gaming pleasure!
my ADSL
Right now, we're finishing our basement, and we're eventually going to be moving my brother's room and computer down there while we move my comp into my room upstairs. If we get cable now, we'd have to reconnect later, and it would just be a real hassle we can avoid by waiting until the basement's done and the comps are moved.
I realize it would be better to wait, but God dammit, I want cable now!

We have broadband because in base housing they didn't offer cable, so our only other alternative was dialup.
I am confused.

Delphi Aegis was listening to Cher while typing:
I am confused.
We had a choice between dialup or dsl.
We had cable before we moved on base, we liked it fine. If we wanted a good connection though, and wanted all three of us to be able to get online, once we moved on base, we had to put out the moneys for a dsl connection.
Isn't dsl broadband? Or am I confused too?
DSL because without it I would go mad.

Broadband refers to higher bandwidth connections, including but not limited to; Cable, DSL, ADSL, ISDN, T1, and T3.
So yes, DSL is broadband. However, so is cable.
Had Dialup for a bit, then got cable, Cable sucked but it was better than Dialup.
Lost cable because of stupidity issues. Back to Dialup.
Dialup bites when you've had 6+ years speed.

She phrased it to say something like "We have broadband, but the base didn't have cable so our only option was dialup". So I was confuseded.

Now I'm confused too.
I understand what she's saying, but I'm confused.

Next month though, I get cable, so I'm happy.

so now I have ISDN and let me tell you 120k isnt what I'd call broadband. Still thats the best I can get til the phoe company gets off its collective backside and installs the slip (or whatever it is that they said they never got around to puting in.) since I have didgital lines here.
its odd to have fiber optics yet be told no cable and no dsl....
Because I'm a cheap bastard.
I do not download alot of stuff either.

You're probably in an IFITL area, which means you'd need a pedestal put in.
Unless they haven't even installed a DSLAM yet...but I don't even know if it's possible to have IFITL without a DSLAM O_o

Broadband.
Hell yeah.
Broadband just came to our area two months ago and when someone else is paying for your dial-up connection, you don't complain

Chief Durkin had this to say about Matthew Broderick:
Just a quick heads up guys: Every broadband provider gives it's customers so many hours of dial-up for use in the event of an outage.
If Comcast in my area does, they've never alerted us about it in the almost three years we've been with them, nor have I seen it anywhere on their website.

Ford Prefect had this to say about Jimmy Carter:
I've never seen a broadband provider offer emergency dial-up services either. I wouldn't expect a broadband provider to have dial-up equipment on hand in case of emergency, except for a few emergency diagnostic access points for their own administrators.
I know for certain that at least Bellsouth I have now, and Verizon that I had in PA have just such a thing. Crazy, I thought it was standard.

Yeah. I also had the same verizon DSL that you did, but I didn't get any free webspace ever.
Of course, I got the DSL when it was first offered, so I think they gave me the modem and crap for free instead.
