Didn't want to ruin Christmas cheer with my rasping cries for tech support. plz hlp kthx

My new laptop is having some issues with KotoR. It runs the game pretty well, but it can't play movies and has spontaneously crashed to the desktop once, but I'm hoping that's an unrelated occurrence.
The machine has a 64 MB card from Intel installed now (I can get the exact model PDQ if needed). KotoR apparently only requires a 32 MB card... but it specified a card from PCI or, um, somebody else, and rattled off some things that the card had to be capable of. Again, I can tell you exactly what it's supposed to have if need be.
So, uh... what's going on in this graphics card? Not being able to see the movies is a little irritating, since I'm missing key scenes in the story

Those Intel mobile cards are pure shit for gaming, however the movie problem is sound related iirc, try getting new sound drivers for whatever card you use.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Well, I've scanned the hardware, and two things fail to meet the game's requirements:

1. The video card. Despite using a 64MB card on a 32MB game, the movies will not run. The requirements sort've imply that the game only works with very specific kinds of cards.

2. The OpenGL driver is out of date, or whatever, and I apparently can't download them anywhere. Again, the requirement sounded REALLY specific.

I refuse to believe that this game won't run properly with certain video cards Whether or not it's good hardware, I'll be pretty pissed if I'm "punished" for using Intel merchandise.

Again, if anyone knows how and is willing to help me fix my predicament (if possible at all), I'd really appreciate it I can get more specific info if needed.

Okay, so I love the laptop but am I'm incensed about this whole card thing. Instead of returning it, I'd like to try and get a better card for it. However, I honestly don't know if I can even do this. So:

A. It has a "PC Slot," which my dad thinks is a port where we could install a new card. Is it? If so...

B. What card do you people recommend? And finally...

C. Who are these fascist developers who are making their games compatible with only a handful of video cards? (optional)

Negative on the replacement. On 99% of the laptops out there it's built on-to the motherboard.

The "PC Slot" you're seeing listed is for a PCMCIA or CardBus expansion card. No vid cards made for that and you wouldn't want a card there anyway... PCMCIA is 16 bit, CardBus is only 32.

Laptops unfortunately weren't meant for games.

PCI and AGP are data busses, not card manufacturors.

Your card is basically a 64 mb AGP graphics card. You do meet the specifications.

  • Go to laptop maker's website, download all driver updates for video card, sound card, and motherboard that you can find
  • Download the latest direct x 9.1b It doesn't use Direct3d for video but it probibly uses directsound for sound.
