Just like in FFTA, Ninja's dual sword is nice.
Don't remember what else is good, it has been awhile.

Do the following with Ramza
1) Turn into knight
  • learn Wear Armor
    2) Turn into monk with Wear Armor as support skill
  • Learn Earth Slash
  • Learn Chakra
  • Learn wave fist
  • in fact learn everything but spin fist- that's useless.
    3) Turn into Ninja (Theif first if you haven't got the proxy job level with the monk exp)
  • learn two swords
    4) Turn back into Squire or Knight with Two swords Support and monk skills as your secondary.
    5) own all enemies in 1 round or less.

I never used the special characters after my first couple of times though the game. I think it's much more fun to use your own home brew army.

Thats the one thing I disliked. Special characters easily outshined your characters you had been working up since the beggining.

    Except for Cloud.

Also, stopping off at the Dragoon class to gain the Ignore Height movement ability is a good idea. Gods, is it usefull in some areas.

hold a 1 hand weapon with 2 hands. you can't use a shield but you do 150% - 175% of the damage you'd do with a 1 hander.

God I love that game. Except for that goddamn count and his wenches. All 3 of you go before me? And 2 do one hit kills and the other flares? Bah.

Me being the completist that I am I eventually mastered all the classes with Ramza. Take Zephyr's advice and try to get calculator eventually, but only if that character knows pretty much all the magic spells. Also make sure that you get a few speed enhancing items for it, because they are damn slow.

It's always nice to have somebody have all the theif skills in boss battles. Makes the game so much easier when you can stop the enemies from weapon breaking or doing their special skills by stealing their swords.

Also, for Job Leveling the skill that the basic class has that raises attack is very nice. Can just use that over and over in batttle.

Just rememebered: When using a monk, use Ramza's Cheer skill to raise their brave up to obscene levels.

    How to level fast.

Have all your characters learn accumulate under Squire skills. Equip squire skills. Now find a random encounter, and kill everything but one critter. Power break that critter until it isn't able to do any noticable damage. Surround the critter and constantly use accumulate, netting you 10xp per turn. Speed break helps cut down on how many turns your enemy will get once you're in position. The only thing you have to worry about is killing it with counterattacks if you have them equipped.

    Profit.

Like Rosaline, a Dancer's abilities are largely useless but fun to watch.

Like Delidgamond, a Mediator, Calculator or Summoner is something you'll want in a special situation only.

Like me, the entire game cannot run without Knights.

My only advice would be just have fun with the abilities; there's no need to go for all uber-death tactics. Even the silly abilities can be amazingly entertaining. As long as you've got a bit an understanding of tactics and decent levels, you're not going to die a horrible death (...too often.)

My personal bit-o-fun: I taught every character I had at least some level of the dragoon's jump (even the white mages). The enemy AI never really seemed sure what to do when my entire party would vanish all at once. It was amusing, and suprisingly effective.

My favourite characters: Ramza's special Squire job with Two Swords (Excalibur and Chaos Blade!), Monk with Two Swords, Wizard or Summoner with Math Skill. Chemists or Mediators with Battle Skill are surprisingly good, as well, blowing people's weapons out of thier hands from a distance.
