Saddam has been arrested outside of Tekrit. (God, I hope I spelled that right.)

No news articles on the web just yet, but I'm watching ABC right now, and they just interrupted programming for the second time in an hour to report that first the reuters reported it, and now many other sources are confirming that Saddam Hussein has been apprhended in a raid outside of his home town.

There's a news conference being scheduled for 7:00 AM EST about this.

I like how FOX News is the only site so far that definately says its Saddam.

While the others are actually waiting for the DNA tests before making such a claim..

All I can say is that if this is the real deal, the news for the next couple of days is going to be very predictable... Not that I mind.

DNA tests confirm it, matching scars confirm it, looks like it certainly is him.

Hopefully this will help quell the unrest.

Grats Bush on election 2004.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Aye, the election now is weighted pretty heavily in his favor now... only something truly catastrophic could take this wind out of his sails.

Assuming, of course, that this is Saddam... I'm as hopeful as the next guy, but I really want to make sure before I do any real celebrating.

Like I said, I heard on News that the DNA came back as a match, and the scars on his body match, so... I'd say so, yes.

I heard about the scars too, and that's a good sign. I'm just wondering how long they've had him for. DNA tests take quite a bit of time, or so I'd heard.

Saddam is more important at the current time. Saddam's followers were killing Americans and our Allies everyday; Al Queda(or whateva!) do something once every few months that kill less than Saddam's people were getting per week. In fact, the Special Forces who lead the raid on Saddam were taken out of Afghanistan just a few weeks ago to concentrate on Saddam.

Al Queda is pretty much gone. There are still seperate cells that call themselves under that name, but their centralized leadership is gone and the cells are pretty much on their own. We did a good job of stomping their network into the ground.

"Saddam will stand a public trial so that the Iraqi people will know his crimes," said Chalabi told Al-Iraqiya, a Pentagon-funded TV station

need to get him cleaned up and healthy for a speedy trial. It will be important to have this trial deemed fair and impartial in the worlds view.

Saddam, with a thick, graying beard and bushy, disheveled hair, was seen as doctor examined him, holding his mouth open with a tongue depressor, apparently to get a DNA sample

I'd think they were looking for a sucide capsule.

I honestly wonder if this means if the fighting over there is going to stop. I don't think that it does. Sure, we have their leader, but that just makes him a martyr. If there are others that believe the same way that he does, then this is a perfect opporunity for a coup.

Or, I could just be talking out of my ass.

The fact that he was taken unharmed and will have a trial will prevent him from becoming a martyr. Having him shot by special ops wouldn't look good.

catch is you have to be dead to be a martyr. Saddam is likly counting on this whatever happens he likly wont face a death pentatly. he may rot in a nice cell some place for the rest of his life.

On another note, people from the Pentagon are saying that the capture of Saddam is likely to not stop more attacks and in fact they might increase. The real benefit of capturing him is that now the ordinary Iraqis no longer fear the US leaving and Saddam coming back, and will cooperate much more with the US to stabalize Iraq and create a government, etc.
