I tried it, the training levels were way too annoying to play through, especially the stealth stuff.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

I might agree with you in exactly 6 hours and 34 minutes..

I played it a bit back when it first came out. The big problem then, was that you needed to pass a training course online... WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW THE ROE. Back then, even one hit (Not a kill! Just a hit!) from friendly fire would fail the entire team for that session. And, of course, since it's a free online game, the only people who played it came from Quake and Counter-Crap where there is no team play, just deathmatch.

I hear it's been VASTLY improved since then. I may check it out if I get a new puter any time soon, but I highly doubt that.

edit: Just try and persevere through the training, it sucked, but the gameplay was pretty good for a free game.

Oh god, that game pisses me off so bad. If you actually want to do missions without the millions of CS players, you have to go take the excrutiatingly boring advanced sharpshooter/medic/special forces training, which often takes about half an hour per session, and you don't always pass it the first time. Then, you log on to a special forces server, get killed in 40 seconds with a respawn clock of 10 minutes, realize the game is crap, and uninstall it.

I love that game, I play it all the freakin' time. Hmmm, if the training really pisses you off that bad, i'll complete it for you. The training isn't any example of the game really.

oh yeah, my SN is [HA]Veknir in there. So if you have ASE, you can find me...

edit: http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html that's the address for ASE, it's a server browser program with lots of features.

The Sharpshooter training isn't the boring part; you get to shoot stuff with sniper rifles. Even the Airborne is a little fun.

The Medic and Special Forces, however...

Medic was cool for about 15 minutes, because it was a unique and even slightly fun experience to actually just walk around the training hospital, sit down in the classroom, watch the various other students and their bored twitches, and listen to a virtual lecture along with virtual slideshow. It was even informative.

Then I realized it went on for 6-7 freakin' minutes, and I had to do it three times. And take a test on it afterwards. (granted, it's an easy test, but still.)

Special Forces is even more obnoxious; you first get to talk to an entire Spec-Ops team that tells you in painstaking detail what they all do, (in two languages each), then you get to wander around the camp until either you find the classroom or the game gets tired of waiting and teleports you there, and finally, you get to--you guessed it--sit through another long-ass lecture, and at the end, after getting to look at stat-sheets on vehicles for a good 3 minutes, you're forced to take an annoying-as-fuck test in which they flash a picture of a vehicle or weapon at you for a 15 seconds, and then you have another 10-15 to answer 3 or 4 questions on it, ranging from the obvious ("is this friend or foe") to the annoying ("what caliber cannon does the front rotating turret carry"). Of course, should you fail, you start from the beginning of the class.

Once you HAVE passed, you get to have a real sneaking-around-a-training-course mission, taking place almost entirely in the dead of night, in a canyon with enemies lining each wall, and a few lit-up camps throughout. You must sneak through all of it, without letting the hideously anal-retentive AI catch a glimpse of you: if it does, your only hope is to go prone and not fucking move an inch, and even that only works in the pitch-black areas.

I'm certified in every school (and an Expert Marksman in the regular training) except Special Forces, because dealing with it made my head hurt.

As to the actual gameplay itself, the unfortunate truth is that your success is dependent on your team. If you are with good people, you will likely have a fun and challenging experience. If you are with bad people, you will last 5 minutes and they will find you a day later naked in a pool of your own vomit, chewing in your shoe leather for sustenance while speaking latin gibberish. Barring your being a superplayer of some kind, you really can't go Rambo.

And expect to get shot in the face by your own team--and what's meore, expect to shoot your OWN team members in the face now and then. It unfortunately tends to happen.

That aside, have a blast.

That Special Forces training sounds right up my alley.

Should be finished downloading the new client in 5 minutes or so.

I advise leaving the room for about 10 minutes during the classes. That helped me a lot.

I'll play with ya, going to download while I'm out at the movies.

Sounds like its a game that I've been looking for, been getting tired of the same old CS run out with and AK and kill everyone with no little to no teamwork.

Jesus H Christ the stealth training is hard.

Gonna go see if I can find a walkthrough.

EDIT: WALKTHROUGH UNDER SPOILER TABS

Taken from this thread

For all you AA guys doing the Special Forces training, here's how to escape and evade...

When you start out, get in a prone position and press insert (or whatever button you have to change speed) to move slowly. If you hear leaves rattle when you go through them, you aren’t moving slowly and have to press insert again. DO NOT GET UP ANY TIME DURING THIS TRAINING! Sometimes it might stand you up without you pressing a thing. You have to act fast and go back to prone. If you get spotted, don’t panic. Stay still and hope to God they don't spot you. Then after about 10 seconds continue on.

Ok, when you start out you stay in the bottom of the ravine and hug the right side. You’ll soon come to a fork. One way goes left, the other right. Go right and cross over and hug the left side of that ravine. You’ll soon come to an enemy camp. There’s brush and a boulder on the left side, go between the boulder and the hill to your left. Off to your right is the enemy camp. There’s 1-2 bushes where you’re at and a pine tree right in front of you. There should be a guy up on the hill and behind you, but don’t worry about him. Go to the pine tree in front of you, and then turn left and go up that hill. I know it contradicts the thing about going on ridges, but this is the only time you’ll have to do so. Slowly crawl over it. Once over it and you start to go down, hug the left side, then slowly make your way right. To your right there’s a guy on the hill. In front of you there’s a bridge, with a guard tower on the other side. Go towards the bridge, but don’t cross it. Objective A is right before you cross it.

Now that you’ve reached Objective A, go on the right side of the bridge and go down into the creek bed below it. Hug the left side of the creek bed. Off to your left and above there’s a boulder and a bush in the ravine, but behind that and more up on the hilltop there's anohter bush with a boulder behind it that the light seems to shine on. Go to the bush and crawl in front of the boulder. Don’t worry about the light if it shines on you. The guard must be blind because he don’t see you. Still, it might be a good idea to remain still if it does shine on you. Keep hugging the right side until you come to a fork in the road you’re now on. Take the left fork. Soon you’ll come to another fork. Go right and hug the left side. You’ll see a few guard towers on your right, but don’t worry about them because boulders shield you from the light. Still, if a guard shouts out, just stay still a while. Soon you’ll see a fork in the road ahead. Objective B is right before the fork.

You’re almost home free. Go down the right path of the fork. Hug the left side. There’s a guard tower on the left side, shinning a light on the right side wall of the ravine. There are two boulders with a bush between them. Hide along the first boulder and time the light so it doesn’t shine on the bush when you’re crossing. The light will shine on you next to the boulders, but he can’t see you. But if you’re caught in the bush when the light shines over there, he can see you. This is the only real tricky part. Once you’re past the second boulder, look off to your right on the ridge and there’s a guard there. Just stay left a while, but slowly start going to the right. Don’t worry about him much. You should soon come to another bridge. There’s a guard tower behind and to the left of it, a tent to the right of that, and a hummer with a guard to the right of that. The hummer is shinning its lights to the right of the bridge, but don’t worry about it. Down the road there’s a hummer that looks like Objective C. Don’t be fooled. This is another guard. Go down the right side of the bridge. The only problem here is it sometimes stands up on its own. You have to act fast if it does. You should be going down into a creek bed with water and plants in it. Go down the middle of it and use the plants as cover. You almost reach the end when there’s a bush with a rock slab behind it off to your left. You have to sideways crawl to get up it, but once you’re up it, your home free. Keep slow crawling though, but you’ll soon come to Objective C behind the troop truck. After that you just crawl up on the driver’s side of the troop truck and flash the lights using your action button. You spotter will see you, the helicopter will pick you up, and you’ll be on your way to freedom. Save it and go ice up those sore gaming fingers.

I play it a lot... The training can be annoying(I think the most anonying is getting 37/40 shots to qualify for sniper) but the game itself is a lot of fun.

Also, the mission that you had to beat online when the game came out was disabled a long time ago, you don't have to complete it now. It's also probably the most realistic fps out right now. The best part of course is that it's free.
