I mean, the graphics aren't half bad, the controls seem fine to me, and the gameplay is just what you'd expect from a matrix game - running around beating the shit out of cops and running like hell from agents.
It seemed like the general sentiment was that it was a bad game.
It's not a fantastic game, granted... some early levels are disproportionately tough, and some later levels were FAR too big, I ended up lost more often than not, but on the whole it seemed like a pretty fun game to me... plus, I enjoyed staking the vampires
Gun combat was awkward and, well, horrible on the console versions. I couldn't shoot for shit on my PS2, and hand-to-hand was only slightly less aggrivating.
It just didn't seem like a Matrix game to me. It felt like a poorly made Max Payne or Dead to Rights mod.
It's not something people hear about.

Half of it is because, simply, I thought the game sucked. The controls were annoying, the graphics were as well--simply because you found yourself with rather pretty and well-animated character models fighting inside HORRID environments--and a lot of the stages were ludicrous. The driving segments were the worst offenders (in my first try at a driving level, playing as Ghost and shooting out of the window, Niobe literally spent about 4 minutes...ramming into a building, over and over and over), but some of it managed to soak into the regular levels as well ("y'know, this place has a lot of bottomless pits for a sewer"). Combine that with a gun-aiming system that rivaled, oh, GTA3 in quality, along with gameplay that stopped being fun once you realized it was essentially Streets of Rage 3D, and it ended up just being awful.
The other half, and what made it unforgivable, was that it could have--and SHOULD have--been much better. The Matrix universe at the time was such that, really, you could do any damned thing you wanted. They could have made it non-linear, they could have added in adventure, they could have put in RPG elements, they could've let you build fucking walking howitzers and named it SimZion, for christ's sake. The fact that the final decision was "let's make it a cookie-cutter action game" was something that always bugged the living hell out of me.

Wow, when did i post that?
The parts immediately before & after were pretty good - I loved those sniper fights in the sewers - but those levels were HELL. You couldn't see SHITupo.
I agree it could've been so much more, but as a 'cookie-cutter action' game it was really damn good. There's strategy, gunfights, and the hand-to-hand is amazing - the variety of moves is great. I remember focus-running up to a guy, hitting action and strangling him with his own gun, or fighting off a mob of swats with a buncha punching & kicking
On the one hand the way health was handled was weird - you can just duck off and regenerate to full health and half the time they won't even follow you. It made the game really easy at points, but on the other hand it wouldve been REALLY hard without it. I dunno how they could balance it...but being at full health didn't mean you would LIVE - in Generator Turbine 2 for instance the game was really tense, it was so hard to find cover, but that was half the fun!
So yeah, I this game, I just wish I could have finished it instead of renting it & spending 3 days on Breathing Room...

Somu Icewalker had this to say about Captain Planet:
The only thing I believe that game was good for was adding depth to the Matrix universe by expanding out the storyline.
Oddly enough that was my biggest beef with the game. They made it so that you have to play Enter the Matrix to understand what all happened at the Reloaded part of the trilogy, which aggravated the hell out of me as a frivolously annoying plot point. They avoided making a complete movie in favor of making an annoying, incomplete movie and a game.

I forgot to mention this also expanded the Wachowski brothers pockets by forcing buys of the game and Animartix to understand fully what's going on.

She just can't drive a bloody car! That is the first time in like 5 years I have had to cheat to get past a level.

7 sequential books covering 7 different years.
Not 3 items telling the story that should have been told in one movie, boyo. Make analogies that work or don't make them at all. Reloaded was substandard storytelling.

The PC version's controls blew goat ass.
When I played it on my Gamecube, I had no problems with the controls, nor when I was at work using the X-Box we have there.
But the PC version... ugh.

Careful, some of the folks on this board might take you up on that offer.
Maybe I missed some great mystery in Reloaded... But it didn't seem to me there were any gaping plotholes that could only be solved by EtM...
How was it EtM was required to "understand" Reloaded?
