I think they're apples and oranges, except for the few American cartoons that obviously done in an anime style.

That doesn't mean American cartoons don't have their good points. If you get the Boomerang channel, check out how many allusions Bugs Bunny tosses right over kids' heads.

Stylistically, Japan wins hands down. Show me a hot American cartoon chick if you can.

American animation also doesn't appeal to the teenager as much as it appeals to the young child. Japanese animation appeals to all ages.

The single worst thing that American animation has had to deal with in the past fifty years is the notion that animated characters are (with rare exception up until recently) solely for the amusement of children. That stunted the growth of the American animation industry for years. It's only just now coming out of that time period.

IS there such a thing as American Animation anymore? I mean, if you watch the credits, most things nowadays are shipped overseas to animation sweat shops. The quality's gone downhill in the last few years imho. *shrugs*

oh, and in regards to hot american animated characters...what about Clampet's classic girls? (ie. Red Hot Riding Hood)

Actually a lot of the high end stuff we think of as American (Reboot, for instance, and Beast Wars, etc) is Canadian in origin.

Hm.. On this topic, has anyone seen "Teen Titans" yet? It combines a lot of elements from American animation and Japanese animation. The animators put in some of the anime-esque expressions(ex. pulsing veins, blush marks)and anime style shading while keeping with the simplified bodies and clothes of American style.

Works fairly well, i think.

Eh, I've already copied all of it to cd. It would just make my computer run too slow if I had all of that on the hard disk.

In addition to that, I'm lending the entire series out to a friend right now. When (and if) I get it back, I'll figure out how to put it up.

See, personally I like the recent Disney Animation a whole lot. Like Atlantis, Treause Planet and Sinbad.

I like that animation, what I have dubbed "American Anime"

Ya know, the really sharp lines/angles on the characters, that sort of thing. Like Batman beyond.

The Animated Batman series from the early 90's is great.
America does spawn a lot of pure crap, most of it crawling from the depths of the once great network of Nickelodeon. Then again Japan also spawns a steaming pile, like Yu-gi-oh and bayblades.
But I have to say, nobody beats Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, and Chuck Jones. Especially their cartoons from World War II, the zany bashings of Hitler will never cease to amuse me.

Too bad Sinbad is Dreamworks. And on that note, 100% CG.

Yes, even the characters.

In terms of Comedy, both have shows that are hilarious so I couldn't decide.
In terms of action, Japan tends to pump out more high quality stuff because they tend to have things designed for any age group. But when western action gets it right *Ex Original Batman, Gargoyles, Original Transformers, Samurai Jack* It is like....
In terms of all other genres, Japan wins because they actually DO other genres beside action and comedy.

Yeah, but I also don't like how alot of the american animation is geared towards kids It should be like anime, some for kids, some for teens, some for adults.
