I really don't find it fair how Sailor Moon does not have homosexuality. I hate the show but that's really not the point. I simply find it sad how they ban any gay/lesbian acts.
They can have straight love, but they can't have homo love? WTF? And yes, they DO allow love in the show. Don't gimmie that "They don't wanna show romance to kids" cause they are, but they don't wanna show homosexuality to kids and that's wrong. They're turning all the gays and lesbians into straight lovers. They'll dub women as guys and vice versa.

I really find this a controversial, or important subject. I couldn't decide weather I should post this in the anime forums or not, but whatever. Someone should sue the guys for doing this.

Unless I'm wrong and they do allow this on TV? Cause I only read Jap/Dub comparisons which could be wrong.

*blink blink...watches in horror as Liquidsub reaches for his brain and carefully takes it out and then quickly makes a bunch of weird motions and when the blur of hands stops moving he proudly displays Rags brain in his hands has been transformed into a balloon giraffe...meanwhile Rags body, now bereft of a brain, stares uncomprehendingly at the world and drools a little bit*

Ok, I think I may have pieced together what your trying to say. But to verify...

Your saying that in the Japanese version of Sailor Moon they have gay/les scenes that they removed from the american version?

The other option, that I thought you meant at first, was that you just wanted Sailor Moon to have gay/les scenes in it. Just because you want it to have some, and it really irked you that it didn't. That idea is what made my brain hurt trying to figure out the logic.

Yep, I think it's really stupid. I think everyone knew that "Amara" and "Michelle" weren't really "cousins".
One part that was funny though was with Fisheye...they dubbed him into a female, but showed him without a shirt on.

What I'm saying is... the dub has edited out gay/les.
Fine if the censor, they got their reasons, but to edit out homosexuality? How is that any fair? Not that different if the show was about Jews and Toonami turns them all into Christains.

It's the media.

They can do whatever the fark they want as long as it meets FCC's minimum requirements.

I do agree that it is pretty stupid to edit out homosexuality from the series, but I bet know why it's done.

Studio execs in the US want to get as wide an audience as possible for their merchandice, thus getting a profit for their effort at translating the films. This means they want a strong fanbase of adults and children.

The problem is, so much of the US is still very puritanical, many, many parents don't want their children exposed to homosexuality at all. Thus, if they studios include the homosexual themes, they stand a large chance to loose a significant chunk of their market. Thus, in the interests of making the largest profit possible, they edit the dub down to the lowest common denominator, allowing the most easily offended consumer to dictate the values of production.

Wish it wouldn't happen like this, but as long as we have a substantial proportion of our population so homophobic, it will probably remain like this.

Simply put: Were there boycotts on Disney after Allen was supported?

I don't condone it either. However I certainly understand why it's done. We live in a capitalistic nation with a very conservative view on issues like homosexuality. The vast majority of the country follows a dogma in which homosexuality is commonly forbidden.

Kinky sex sells anime...but only to adults.

If there was an animated series, American or or Japanese or otherwise, that was targetted towards young kids that dealt with, among the main point of the series, homosexuality in a mature manner, then I think it could find a place.

Unfortunately, anime doesn't even handle heterosexual relationships in a completely mature manner.
