Also, the board suddenly got alot faster with the posting! About half of it has been from me but still...

Mog hit it right on the head. The slowdown is because everyone's piss-scared of being banned and/or raked over the coals for posting their opinion. That, and the people with opinions are fewer and further between, simply because, over the years, almost everyone's moderated toward center on just about every single debatable issue.

An excellent example of this is Drysart's "I love the Daily Show" thread. 18 months ago, that would've been locked at 300 replies 12 hours after it was posted. Now, it's just kinda petered out to nothing. Where's the bitter arguing? Where's the righteous fury?

The n00b drive was not a smashing success, so little new blood has come in to spice things up. Those which did come in have A) stopped posting or B) fallen into the faceless throng, or at the very least, made no impression upon me.

Frankly, I don't see the situation changing. Those elements which are critical to a high turnover on the boards are gone, either lost over time, or sent packing to Flameball. Now I ain't saying whether this is bad or good, it's just the way it is.

The political stuff is the only threads that reach any length.

And even then it's just the same old people saying the same old things about different issues.

It's not even worth it (for me) to argue anything. I'm not changing anyone's mind, and most of the time, I'm not learning anything new.

This place was plenty interesting without arguing and fighting.

Unfrotunately, that part of the boards is gone as well, and has been for even longer than the fighting and arguing.

The the part where it wasn't daily flamefests and shouting matches, with the occasion pissing contest on the side.

It's the constant flamefests and pissing contests that have driven people away for most of the time here, while catering to those who revel in it. To those who dont feed off the hatemongering (And even some of those who do, as long as its not them.) they fear posting anything these days. Cause being harped on gets old, being ripped into gets old.

These boards moved pretty damn fast without seeing a hate/flame thread for weeks at a time.

That hasn't been the case for the last couple years, and its only gotten worse. Maybe it's just finally peetered itself out, to death.

Most of the people I know that are still around here, really only read the boards out of habit anymore.

It's not that anyone lost their will or ability to argue, the trouble is that we have basically discussed all the major topics at length. We can all guess by now what Bloodsage's, Azizza's, Drys' or Tyewa's response to a Conservatives vs. Liberals thread will be, what Karnaj's or Star Collective's response to a religion thread will be or what Fal's or Kegwen's respnose to a copyright thread will be.

I'm not saying this is good or bad or pulling that 'Oh you are all SO predictable'-act, it's just something that is bound to happen on a board with a very static population and even moreso on a board where that effect is compounded by rampart Xenophobia (Yes it's gotten a lot better since Drys split the board and opened flameball). Unless we start getting loads of new people I doubt this will change anytime soon, not that it would kill the board really, people would still discuss current issues, movies, political happenings just with less posts / day. When the US election heats up and debates etc start happening I guess things will get more interesting again.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.
