The colours, yes. I drew and inked it by hand

I'm impressed! I wish I had your talent.

The hooves look like they came straight from a carto- wait, it is a cartoon. Nevermind.
Honestly, it's very good!

How do you do the lighting effects?

Verily, Naimah doth proclaim:
Is there a tool that does that quickly? Or do you just do it by hand.
It's Dodge/Burn, and Aribrush.
The Backing to the picture, the clouds, is a modified filter in PS, photo.
The print on the wings is a patern, filter.
Going by appearances anyway. PS also has a Render Filter for lighting. Which you can use to some pretty nifty effects.
Thats just going by eye anyway, not my piece, so could be off. But hopefully that helps ansewer your question Naimah. If you were looking at finding shortcuts in PS anyway.
The hoof looks a little awkward - I thought it was a top of a boot, and didn't realize it was a hoof until someone mentioned something about it - I think it's mostly because if she had legs, and she was sitting flat liek that, the leg would extend much further, and not continue to widen. Normally with hoof structure, the leg just doesn't turn into hoof - they are shaped similarly to this:
and
.. with her hooves the way it is, it would be impossible for her to walk steadily, because the bottom of her foot would constanly by perpendicular to her leg - and that doesn't work - if she was walking on a hill, for example, she would have to be pitched so far forward that she would fall (as far as center of gravity is concerned)
the shading is very well done, especially for a mouse - you may want to keep in mind where the light is coming from. On the top, it seems to be coming from behind her, then it switches to straight on from the arm down.
I absolutly ADORE the sides of your art - I wish I could draw like that. I also love the way you worked in the background - did you paint/draw that, or did you use a background photo?
I'm sorry if I went to far into it, but I was trying to be constructive. =/ I wish I could draw like you! Heh, I'm just the colorist. ^^

Thanks I was trying to do that kinda stuff with just an airbrush and it is realy freaking hard to make it not look like absolute ass.

There was much rejoicing when Naimah said this:
How do you do the lighting effects?
The way I do it is a section off whatever I'm coloring - using the magic wand or the lasso, and then I dump the color into it - (this is all with the original line drawing as layer one, and this layer is BELOW it, with layer 1 set to multiply, so the lines stay). You set the opacity to less then 20% (what exactly depends on the effect of what you are doing) Then, I shade it the ay I want it using linear burn - it darkens the color the way shadows would. Usually, I then switch to a smaller brush (or I use the pressure sensative wacom pen), and set the paintbrush mode to SCREEN. Screen acts as a highlight - if you use it over one area multiple times, it willeventually highlight to almost or true white.
I learned all of this sortof on my own, coupled with a LARGE lesson from Woody (over at gucomics). It's the easiest way to outline it, but I've been thinking baout making a tutorial, if anyone's interested. also, I just figured out how to put a texture or pattern on drawn fabric. ^^
The paintbrush tool with a diffused brushshape is I use - I don't use airbrush, because the paintbrush works very well for me.
I would honestly suggest against using filters - they LOOK like it was filtered, almost always. [ 10-19-2003: Message edited by: Gikkwiny ]

One: Wrong.
Two: Wrong
3: Wrong.
:B
I do all of my colouring by hand, using the paintbrush then smoothing with smudge. The patterns that you see are downloadable brushes. My lighting is form multiple layers that are set to "Overlay" using various colours to highlight.
And yes, I wanted the wings flat

He was asking a question, about how to do certain things. Like I said in the post, not my piece and I was probably off on how you did it, that was describing how I would do it for the different things you did since you just said you colored.

Yeah filters can, and often do look filtered. With the exception of the Lighting Effects filter, typically those are subtle changes to light coposition, and easy to mask...
Other filters, you can tweak around with, like opacity, layering, and fading and such to make em look a bit more realist. Kinda hard to do, and a lot of trial and error. Not always a complete waste.
A good one to use for a wet look for instance, is plastic wrap. With a bit of fading and a little work, makes for a very good effect that is almost unable to be duplicated by hand. It's also good for making a polished leather, or vinyl look.
Patern Mapping for clothing is friggin hard. Doing the elevation shading and such is a royal bitch, I lack the attention span for it. It can be done to an awesome result though.
Gikk does have some valid points in the structure of the lower leg as well, but if you were going for cylindrical and stylized, as opposed to a more realistic shape, then by all means, you're set there.

Who needs to walk uphill if you can fly?
And filters can work if you know how to use them.
I didn't use any filters in this one though.
