I'm thinking of getting back into the MMORPG world for a little bit, I have the income to do it, but I'm not sure what game I should go to, any reccomendations?

I am waiting for WoW, and maybe Horizons, and I'm done with DAoC

Because you say "getting back" and not "getting into", I take it you allready have one of the games. If so, just go back to that. Stick with what you know, it's not worth it to learn a totally new game if you're just using it for a time filler.

DAoC and EQ are the only two out right now that don't downright suck. DAoC coming in a distant second and very close to the sucking line but will have to wait for the second date before it sucks.

How is the new AO expansion? Except for the horrible lag, it was a better game than both DAOC and EQ, IMNSHO.

Though not much beat the early days of EQ.

I asked the exact same question here about two days ago. Apparently nobody knows.

Saying that, I'm still considering going back to AO, because yes, you're right, AO is one of the best MMORPGs out there and the new expansion got really good reviews. I'd prefer first hand information from one of my fellow ECers though. =/

Horizons comes out today or tomorrow doesn't it?

Looks like a good game. Though I'm waiting for FF XI right now which comes out the 28th of this month for the PC.

Then there is Doom 3..............

Bad first impression. The game is excellent...but it had a terrible launch. It's not that everybody quit, it's that hardly anybody has played at all.

I'd so be playing AO if I weren't poor. I can't afford any MMORPGs, though.

Bad first few months. The first few months were horrible, giving it a bad reputation. Its a lot better now but most people won't touch the game because of that reputation.

But AO is the only one I'm considering to play again.

I started up and got to 48 as an MA. Never went LD, never died once (Save to a massive train in the temple of three winds..). Fun as heck. Just no cash.

I think UO in late 1997 was the most fun I've ever had playing any game, period. Then they started catering to the whiny little pussies and the game turned into one great big happy hugfest where it was impossible to make a decent living. I should stuck with a player-run shard. OLD SKOOL.

Between the New expansion and just the normal updates, great deal has changed. My cruddy 'puter still chokes every once and a while, but I have a 450 Mhz machine and a 56k connection so it's expected. Classes seem more defined, Tradeskills now have very good uses. Static dungeons with nice loots in it, more named mobs roaming Rubi-Ka, and the addtions of Dyna-Camps which are basically a small boss encounter.

As for the expansion it self, Well they really break away from the Sci-Fi aspect, however the new lands are a very nice change. The new calsses are spiffy, I really took a likening to the keeper class, kinda like the DAoC Paladin. The perk system is good, Adds permanent buffs and usally rounds out your class abilities, Example: Keepers have a perkline that gives them a always on HoT, with stacks with their Nano Recharge/HoT line, soloing it mean less down time, grouped mean you can run your Nano Recharge and still have a HoT running. Shadow lands also pops in a mess load of New loot, like symbiot that are like implants, but instead of boasting only 1-3 stats, it boast a whole mess, not as much as a implant could, but synbiot boost stats an implants can't.

Actually, I've just gone back to UO.

Things are pretty nice now (as long as you weren't planning on playing a PK, but even then, they have faction battles to allow for PvP battles in a more controlled fashion.)
